High temperature and it's effect on beer

    Over the past few months I've been receiving lots of bottles of beer as gifts, which I've been storing in my front room, as I don't have a cellar. However, it's been a very cold winter here (in England), so I've been heating my home from time to time. There are occasions when I'll have left the house then return home to realise that the room is very warm.

    Apart from these occasions, my room is typically a cool-mid room temperature. So what I'm asking is how much will these occasional warm fluctuations have affected the quality of my beer? Be honest!

    I've been storing them upright and away from light, so the temperature is my only concern.

    Are you wondering how it affects the beer long term (2 years or more) or short term (months)?

    How warm are we talking? Is your standard room temp 20C (68F)? How warm is warm? 27C (80F)? 32C (90F)?

    Keep in mind that unless the beer has live yeast in it (wild ales, mostly), there's a good chance the beer was pasteurised, so it got heated well beyond even very warm house temperatures.

    So, honest answer, it's probably fine, even over the long term. Warmer temperatures probably accelerate changes. If you're really concerned about something specific, keep it refrigerated.
