Tonight I brewed something of a imperial porter or stout or some such thing that had a projected OG of 1.077 (iBrewmaster), but I ended up measuring my OG at 1.086. I did something of what I assume a mini-mash is. This is what I was working with:

    1 lb 2-row
    12 oz roasted barley
    10 oz chocolate malt
    4 oz peat-smoked
    7 lb dark LME
    4 lb light LME

iBrewmaster tells me I had 106% efficiency. I am thinking I probably had more LME or grain than actually measured (I got this stuff from Austin homebrew). Any insight would be appreciated.

Was it a full boil or partial boil and then you topped off with water?

Boiled 2.5 gallons, topped off with water to a hair over 5 gallons.

Based on some rough calculations I come up with you getting a starting gravity of 1.084. If you take the 11 pounds of liquid malt extract and assume you are going to get 38 gravity points from each pound that gives 418 (11*38). Divide that by how many gallons you have (5) you get 83.6 or 1.0836 for a starting gravity plus any fermentables from the malt. So I think the program is wrong and nothing suspicious happened on your end.

    Good to know, thanks!
