I understand that this was released recently and quickly became quite a local unicorn. Anybody try this and want to weigh in about it? Where is winbassett--doesn't he usually herald releases such as this?

I am not a trader, but would be interested in trying this one if anybody is game. Thunderstruck coffee porter also, if there is any of that left around. I could do locals-for-locals, with Bridge Brew Works being on my end. BM me.

It's pretty plentiful here in Winston Salem, both cold mt and Thunderstruck. I think I even saw Thunderstruck at my local grocery store.

Cold Mt is a nice beer with a nice vanilla twang to it but I wouldn't go to far out of my way for it. I haven't had Thunderstruck for a while but as I recall there wasn't an overwhelming flavor of coffee.

Both beers are definitely above average but there are better examples of their particular niche out there.

I'm one of the few that doesn't care for Cold Mountain.

Win Bassett moved to CT over the summer.

The recipe changes yearly. This year's is a fine beer, though I didn't enjoy it as much as last year's. The 2013 tastes heavily of cranberry to me, with not as many vanilla and sweeter notes as previous versions.

Still a great beer that I would encourage everyone to try. I'm a big fan of Thunderstruck, too!

Really? I think it's got more coffee and roast than most self-described coffee beers.

I agree. Thunderstruck has a HUGE amount of coffee in my opinion. It's available almost everywhere in Charlotte right now. Just picked up a 6-pack of it from Harris Teeter last weekend.

I could be wrong. Haven't had any this season, just remembering from last year. After Victory at Sea Coffee Vanilla became available in these parts I kinda stop the search.

Thunderstruck is one of my local favorites. Love that beer and it's one I search for when I want a porter. Cold mtn is also a favorite of mine. But I haven't had this years regular version yet. Only the BA. And it was.....well damn good.

    @Wanda---love the avatar! Classic.

Correct. and before that he discovered that he had developed a Gluten allergy and was basically forced to give up beer. Hence the lack of posts, articles, and the move.

Too bad. I really haven't had a decent gluten free beer yet. Hope New Haven is treating him well.

There are some good ones out there: Harvester Brewing out of Oregon and Alchemist makes Celia Saison. Unfortunately neither make it this way. My wife has Celiac Disease so I have had most out there. My wife is actually happy when I get a shipment of Heady from my friend up north as she knows there will be some Celia in there as well!

I brewed up a "gluten-reduced" IPA using Clarex (which is how Omission is made). Tests under 20ppm and tastes like an decent IPA. I was afraid to make it to hoppy (only 55ibu) as my wife hasn't had a true IPA in like 10 years!

Celia is no longer made by Alchemist - it moved to Ipswitch (where it was previously contract brewed).

I was soooooo fucking happy when we got Cold Mountain at my store. I just point people to the damn stuff, instead of having to field the question. Its good, but not every 3rd person walking into a wine store buying as much as possible good.

Everyone that I have met that has met him said he was holier than thou ...... so perhaps he's studying to be on the right career path. Cheerz RNBz
