This comment makes me want to share a UJ with you.

Also, I'm permanently boycotting HWS due to an almost exact replay of OPs experience. I wouldn't even buy Cantillon from that place...

Mile High, Joy, Mr. B's are way better. Hell, almost any shop is way better because I'm not going to be made to feel like an ignorant child...

I really hate to hear this. Seems like I'm one of the few people who like this place. I will say it took a few visits for me to warm up to the staff. But there's really no excuse for being treated that way.

My thoughts exactly. He forced me to narrow it down, then chided me for narrowing it down.

I was soooo close to calling him out, but at that point I was still hopeful.........

I went by and they put out a few Well Built ESB and Black Butte XXIII today. I know I know the whole "boycott" thing, guess I'm a scab.

So when OP asked for something local and barrel-aged they might have stashed in the back, the guy could have been cool and given him a Well Built ESB

Maybe. But maybe they didn't have it at the time. Sometimes distributors hold stuff (see: Stranahan's and RNDC) and release them later to accounts. Not sure about Well Built, but sometimes breweries go outside of their distributor for allocation. Avery does sometimes.

I asked the guy if they received more, he stated they didn't and that he just pulled it from the "cellar". I then proceeded to ask about Cantillon in said cellar and was quickly shot down.

If a place is going to keep a "cellar" I suppose they should be consistent. I know Davidson's has one, however they only sell those beers during GABF week. I don't really have a problem with that.

i've heard if you have a nice rack they'll sell you anything in the cellar at any time...

When I went in there to pick up my phone-ordered Cantillon, I was talking to the guy in charge. He outright said that he and his employees didn't know squat about beer. He pointed out that the employee who rang me up only buys coors light there, and that went for most of the other employees as well.
