It means I want to love them so bad that I rate them 4+...you're right, though. DG is AMAZING, I agree, but next to an Abrasive...no. Damon, solid...did it hang with CFH'12 or some of the BA DLs, no. My broader point was this brewery has like a handful of beers rated below a 4 and seriously...I just don't get the hysteria. I really, REALLY want to love them...I just don't. And I can't imagine others do either. So the people that traded their cellars for Ann...was it worth it?? Really?? I get they're balanced and smooth and all that. Susan was a non-hoppy, no scent, dishwater beer...and yet it's the #1 rated IPA. It's just not that good. Anyways, I know opinions are like @ssh*les and we all have them, but this is mine...

To someone else up above...maybe my BoT was a bad bottle, but it sucked. Like suck sucked. I dumped half my glass and opened a BA Night Train from O'so, which was much better...

...then you obviously never met Shawn Hill. He is kind of a head case from what I have heard...

Read the reviews. People are like "hmmm...it's soapy, but it's good..." Who describes a flavorless hop, IPA as soapy and then rates it a 4+. You do, though, clearly... No "LOL". More like an "IMHO", as the kids say.

Never tried them before but why the hate on DFH? They make great beers, atleast they think outside the box.

Everything that I've had from HF has been nothing short of amazing except for maybe their brown ale - but that's basically a bias against brown ales. Society & Solitude #5 was like an all time top 5 IPA for me, Edward/Abner are oh-so-crushable, and everything I bought in a bottle has been a treat to drink. OP is entitled to his opinion but man, if HF is wrong, I don't want to be right

Um. I'm not going to comment other than to say I was making an annoying joke in the form of an Arrested Development reference.

One for bad, two for good might be the more appropriate reference.

OP traded his cellar and/or drove from MN to VT to try HF and is now sad that it didnt give him mental and physical orgasms followed by a herd of unicorns that took him through the wardrobe to Narnia.

Just my guess, could be wrong. But maybe you just are personally not a fan?

Are you serious? I just searched the words "soap" and "soapy" looking through the Susan reviews and only one review uses "soapy" as a flavor descriptor. Nor is that review mine. What you said really doesn't make any sense.

Russian River IPAs are among the best, but not even close to HF hoppy stuff.[/quote]

I'm not sure what you mean here. Both Ephraim and Abner I found profoundly similiar to RRBC's PtE and Hopfather. (ABV differences I'm well aware)

    Have you tried PtY?

I didn't trade my cellar for any of it. I traded an Abyss for Susan for example and a MoaS for a Damon. So, I have no real skin in the game other than having over 200 of the top 250 beers on the Brothers list and these guys just ain't that good. Sorry. Maybe I like bold, high flavor beers; or maybe I've had too many top tier brews for the style...but I haven't had one yet (except maybe DG) that I gave a shit about. I'm out nothing on these guys, just being a pragmatic observer. Again, where are all the people that traded their cellars for Ann?? How was that mind blowing wine barrel aged saison?? Was it worth your Brandy Vanilla Dark Lord?? Again...opinions man, opinions...I think a lot of hyped breweries are over-rated...

Not a "most overrated" thread without someone mentioning DFH, I think its "cool" to be anti DFH especially if you've only had a couple of the over 90 beers they have... more interesting is his DFH reviews

WTF........ I have not had the beers you have mentioned. I have had Abner, Edward, What is the Enlightenment, Double Citra, and Florence.

People with good beer taste make sure to go to Hill when they go to VT.

Why do we need to tear do people who make good or great beer.

Well, I was wondering when the original poster was ever going to respond... and well surprise..

Honestly, why are you getting so bent out of shape over someone who likes a "beer" more than you do?

Is this a problem? I am just not following this here... stop me but somehow this should be to your advantage...

uh, you rated it a 4.

but I still can't say "You do!" like I'd like to, because susan isn't soapy, or flavorless.
