The OP reminds me of your Pliny threads:wink: And to the person early on that called it marketing, uh what marketing?

I... What... I... I just don't get it. I've had quote a few of their offerings on tap in NYC and am salivating to get my hands on more. Sorry, but I disagree!

I thought Batch 2 of BoT was a bit undercarbed but still amazing. It definitely had nowhere near the carbonation of a ToI I had side by side. It didn't really keep me from really enjoying it though. It's an awesome beer.

Thanks for the note, Shaun  You live in New Hampshire, what have you had to compare them too...seriously? Not trying to be an ass, but seriously...I've had some of the best in the world in each style...I'd love a take from other beer tickers?? Again....Ann lovers?? Come on, speak up?? Is HF that amazing???

Indeed that's true, but the OP sure was presented in a manner intended to produce maximum opposing responses... in other words, with the intent of ruffling feathers. It has succeeded.

Calling one of the finer breweries in perhaps the world the "most over-rated" is at least a mathematical impossibility. I just don't understand how one can insist that their opinion be taken seriously, or at least given equal weight, when it is clearly an extreme outlier on the bell curve of HFs drinkers.

    Hi Phil!

HF saisons are like nothing I've ever had...those alone would put HF pretty damn high on any list. All of them I've had have been great. Juicy is just crazy great if you ask me, I'd pound 750s of that all summer if I could.

Society and Solitude 5 is my favorite beer of all time, SS#4 is close behind, and Abner is better than Heady Topper if you ask me. Susan is incredible, Edward is about as good a 5.5% hoppy beer can be. Double Citra was unfreakingbelievable. Double Galaxy is great. Walden was a revelation at 4% and the Life Without Principle series was awesome to me, a citrus lover.

I have not yet mentioned any dark beer they make.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case.

Now you are straight trolling. People in NH can't trade? Damn, guess I'll have to move now...

Fair enough and I think Pliny is great but have had many IPS's I prefer. I have found HF to be consistently great though in all styles, to each there own. Cheers!

another from NH here, I have never had a good beer in my life, brewed or anything. I am comparing these beers all to longhammer from redhoook and harpoon ipa.

I thought we agreed AB was the most over-rated.

    Here's what you said
    1. You claimed that the "reviews" and "people" say it's soapy, as if the majority of the reviews say that and it's some sort of established fact. That's entirely wrong, as only 1 review says it.
    2. You claimed that I described it as flavorless and soapy and yet rated it above a 4. That's also entirely wrong, as I say neither of those things in my review.

    Are you drunk?

You said you like a Mikkeller beer, your opinions are invalid.

He's not drunk, he just has a superior palate because he's drank world class examples in all these styles. And HF only brews low flavor IPAs and he only enjoys full flavor IPAs. They're a completely different style and you should feel bad for liking all of the terrible LFIPAs Hill Farmstead puts out. And also where are the Ann-lovers?

I don't chase whales and am often amused by the hype over them. IMAHO, there are just too many good beers out there that are readily available and moderately priced to get the vapors over some obscure, pricey and sought after beers.

Is it possible that HF is getting so many raves simply because they're hard to get?

Has anyone done any blind tastings to see if they still get the hype when anonymous?

Ok, so what do you think is more realistic here:

    - You got an infected/bad/flat bottle of Birth of Tragedy and shouldn't be judging the beer based on that. It happens to everybody.

    - The 307 people rating it a 99 on this site (and 99 people rating it 100 on the other site) are wrong and everybody is trying to pull one over on you.

You've made your point - you don't love HF as much as other people. But you're just not using your noggin' if you honestly believe BoT is a drain pour...

Ok, agree to disagree...I hear you all yelling. Drink more of each of these styles that they make...they're dull beers, sorry, my opinion...I've drainpoured their 4.5+ rated beers and I've had more top rated beers than most of you...enjoy and love them, I just don't get it. I've researched a lot of your Hads / Reviews...not a lot to compare me to, but ok. Enjoy. For real beer reviewers / tickers, I didn't get a lot of notes loving them....again, how was that BA Saison Ann?? Yawn....

This is an interesting point that probably could fill up its own thread- is it reasonable to include the mysteriousness of a brewery, its reputation, location, or, hell, its label art, when assessing the quality of the beer? Those things do contribute to the enjoyment of the beer to some degree, right?

I think that they make a lot of great and well balanced beers. All of them have a roundness to them and in my opinion, are very well done because they're not over the top. Granted, I think that a lot of the hype behind them is due to the limited availability, but they're still INCREDIBLY solid, and I visit the brewery every time I'm within a 3 hour radius. At the end of the day, it all comes down to what your tastes are and what your expectations were coming into things.
