I've noticed this seems to be the case when you get close to Canada. Guess they like ATT up there. Of course, I have VZ

I'm sure there's one pour guy at every release who shows up without cash and then finds out he's got a 45 minute round trip to the nearest ATM...

They really should just start using Square or one of the other simple iphone based card swipers. I'm sure most people would be happy to pay the extra 3%...

There is an ATM 5 minutes from Hill Farmstead at Willey's Store in Greensboro. It's still best to bring plenty of cash, but in case of emergency, there is no need to drive too far away.

If they are doing it like the Damon release again then the bottle line is the growler line. They give you a ticket and you pick up bottles in the front of the brewery. So it doesn't make too much sense to split up. This was a system that sounded good but everyone somehow made inefficient for getting bottles quickly.

Beard and glasses with a more attractive wife? Yeah I'll keep a look out for you and the 40 other people you just described.

I've been to a fair amount (but hardly all) of the HF releases and more often then not there are still bottles left hours after the opening time when I leave.

They changed it up for the Biere de Norma release and had a separate bottle line outside where they were doing pours as well. Much, much better system that probably took less than 15 minutes to clear the line from when they started selling. However, I would expect a larger crowd and I'm sure the growler line will grow to a 60+ minute wait.

Biere de Norma was one bottle limit though. It wouldn't be that easy when everyone is carrying three to five bottles away (depending on bottle limits). The Damon/Mimosa release format would seem to be more comparable to this one.

I like that they are keeping the pours open though, it's really nice to hang out outside and sip on a nice HF beer before having to head back home.

Right, but at that release everyone was being hearded into the tap room and back out in one line. With most people waiting in the same line to do growler fills too it slowed down bottle purchases because of space limitations and speed inside. Bottle purchases should go much smoother. Growlers on the other hand.... thankfully I live close enough that I can save time by stopping in after work instead of waiting in line on release days. Hopefully with more taps it will go quicker when their expansion gets built.

They did separate lines for the Birth of Tragedy release and it was greatly appreciated. The bottle line was incredibly short / fast while the growler line was the exact opposite. I can't imagine how combining the two wouldn't suck for all patrons involved. Lines for each product move slower by the combination of the two, especially the bottle line which was the only line that hadn't been slow in the BOT Release configuration! Hoping they do the same two line format this weekend!

I showed up..eh, 2 hours early for the Birth release and was number 7 in line. Showed up 2 hours before the Mimosa release and winded up being 1st in line. Missed the last release due to work and missing this one due to throwing a 5 course beer dinner.

For those going...stopping at The Alchemist is mandatory. And then, 2 minutes away is the Black Back, worth checking to see what Lawsons Finest and Hill Farmstead they have on tap (For HF, its usually whatever Hill themselves have for growler fills). Then swing by the pig, which is right across the street. the BBQ is a bit, overpriced for my liking, but the specials are solid and the bar menu isnt bad. Plus, generally a decent enough tap list. I presonally avoid The Reservior. Sorry, but when your establishment is 20% full and it takes me 70 minutes to get a burger...I'm not returning.

Anyone knows a good hotel near the prohibition pig? Not too expensive?

Is Prohibition Pig really that pricey? No one ever seems to mind the prices at Blackback and I always thought they were absurd.

well, for draft prices both are fine. Food at the blackback is overpriced and really not that good in my opinion.

Okay, would you pay $18 for a few slices of brisket and 2 sides? If you dont have a problem with that then I guess its not that pricey. Burgers are under $10, which is pretty darn good. I got the daily special which was a venison burger with baby spinach, cherve, and balsamic red onions for $9 and it was tasty. Keep in mind though its ala cart (ie, just a burger, no fries).

The bar menu/starter menu...$4 for eh, average french fries, $4 for pretzel knots (there were 2 and I've had WAY better), $4 for pork rinds (now those were delicious and I munched on many orders). The fried pimento cheese looked good, but again, $7 for 4 fritter sized balls..ehh.

HA! My wife won't be with me, but I'll fall into the category quite happily. Nothing wrong with marrying up.

It's Boston prices in Waterbury, VT. Some won't care, some will expect cheaper. Basically the same as Blackback, particularly as half of Blackback's draft list is the same HF/Lawson's stuff on tap at Pro Pig.

I think the real problem is The Alchemist was dirt cheap. So you go from paying $4 for a Heady Topper draft at Alchemist to $6.50 at the Pig in a span of 6 months and a lot of people are caught off guard by it.
