Just got back from HHI. Kroger and Whole Foods have a great beer selection. I picked up some COAST, Holy City, Freehouse and Foothills, plus they had a bunch of other SC beers.

We didn't make it to Lodge, but they do seem to have the best selection on the island. Bomboras and Local Pie both had good draft lists. I had a Hilton Head Brewing beer at Local Pie and would agree that it wasn't the awfulness people have described in the past. It does seem that most restaurants have at least one local tap now, usually Palmetto, River Dog or Hilton Head.

Made it to the new(ish) Hilton Head Brewery location on Saturday. Their Break Series (Jointer was on tap), GTA 420 Series, and Session IPA all had the new house yeast and the NE haze, hop bomb style. All were good, with the Session IPA standing out to me because it actually had flavor and mouthfeel which I usually don't get from a 4.9% "session" style IPA.

You missed out on not making it to The Lodge though. Went there for dinner Saturday and had Maine Beer Co. Lunch and 2015 Rare Bourbon County on tap. $4 for 5 oz pours and $40 for 64 oz growlers. Talk about great value compared to $60 for a 16 oz bottle!

I could have gone without that knowledge.

I will be in Hilton Head for a week starting on May 7th as well.

Are their any shops near (or even a little bit of a drive away) from Hilton Head Island that would be recommended to try to pick up some local/regional beers? I'm not looking for anything too crazy, just some Westbrook (gose, different weisses, other bottles), Coast, etc.

Always interested in meeting up for a beer, and I went ahead and posted an iso/ft as well if any interest: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...comforts-ft-ohio-midwest-distribution.412594/).

But only if you admit that you didn't read this thread, and promise to always read the thread (or at least the most current page) before posting again.

Kroger and Whole Foods have everything you want.

Fair enough. I did see your previous post, but was just curious if there were other suggestions. Re-reading my post, it probably was not stated very well. Thanks for the tip!

Glad this thread got bumped, I'll be getting there this Thursday. The lodge and HH Brewery sound like must stops.

Anybody have any suggestions for lunch spots? Nothing fancy and a big beer list isn't a must, just solid grub and not too touristy

Lodge is ok not my favorite but Hilton Head Brewing is a must stop. Make sure you go o their brewery not the restaurant. Also really only go for the breaker series beers there the rest are very medicore at best.

Where's the brewery? I think I've been to the restaurant (behind Lodge, right?) and wasn't impressed last summer. Lodge I enjoyed though.

Burgers at CharBar were pretty good. Local Pie has a $10 lunch special.

This website is pretty handy, we discovered Local Pie on it and that was probably one of our favorite spots: http://www.forkandfun.com/hilton-head-restaurants

Bullies BBQ it's attached to a gas station but some of the best BBQ ever and Dyes Gullah Fixens for fried chicken ( you have to have a reservation for this place). If you want fried sea food go to Hudsons

hey @james582 curious about the HH brewery vs restaurant - is the beer different at the restaurant? Also, do they do growlers to go at the brewery. Heading there next week and will bring some glass if so. These east coast IPAs sound interesting

The restaurant sucks. They don't get any of the good beer and the food blows to. The brewery does fill growlers. Just like I said look for the "Break Series" ipas

Just got back from Hilton head, thanks for all of the suggestions! Was able to try jointer from the hh brewery break series, and it was one of the juiciest ipas I've ever had, really good!

Hey guys, I'll be on the Island in about a week. Are there any good places to buy beer or eat?

Okay, just kidding. Nice to see some new stuff doe. I hit the island once a year in the summer. Didn't know about the new spot for the brewery, their stuff pretty much sucked the last time I had it. Haven't heard of Local Pie - will check that out. Bullies BBQ sounds interesting too.

    I'll be there 5/28-6/2 - sup @Fitze?

    Hey Wes,

Glad your coming back to town. We should try to get together for a beer again. Maybe set up a trade or something. Also, I will not be at BASC this year.

Lets be in touch as we get closer to your trip.
