I'm Heading to Hilton Head in a few weeks and was wondering if there are any places to check out as far as retail shops or bars/breweries that have a good selection. At first glance it doesn't look like there's much and its not going to make or break the trip but of course vacation is better with delicious beer and i may need a change of pace from all the Yeungling I will be drinking.

FYI, I was on HHI last week and stopped at both Whole Foods and Kroger. I was a little excited at first because Whole Foods had several MBC bottles, some HopArt cans and a couple SC porters I hadn't tried. I checked the dates on the MBC Peeper and Zoe... 08/2014. I had to sadly put them back on the shelves. The HopArt cans were 01/02/2015.

I didn't have much time in Kroger but it seemed they may have had more options in the local 6pk cans area but I don't like 'investing' in a 6pk of something blindly.

I also went to Hilton Head Brewing Company. Cool area. I had the 20th Anniversary DIPA and was unimpressed. I was told the Lodge had an impressive tap list but our table at One Hot Momma's was ready so I didn't get to check it out.

I've never been a fan of One Hot Momma's. Best Q in town is out in bluffton at Jim and Nick's.

Whole Foods has OK selection but stock moves slow as evidenced by your experience. Kroger gets great stuff but is can go super fast.

For the best selection you would need to venture out to Beaufort or Savannah. Really not much on the island (I have lived on HHI for 15+ years so I am am well aware of the sad beer selection).

Best beers can be had the The Lodge. They have rotating taps and have had things like HopSlam, Mexican Cake, Enjoy By, BCBS...

Headed to HHI this weekend and plan on hitting WF and Kroger. I also came across Reilley's and Roller's as possible sources for good beer -- is that not the case? And is Hilton Head Brewing worth the trip (I've read the beer isn't that great)?

    Thanks!

Don't worry about trying to make it to Hilton Head Brewing, not worth. The best selections as far as bars go is The Lodge. Good selection of bottles and about 25 beers on draft.

Also, like mentioned above, Whole Foods has a decent selection of beers and fills growlers. I think there are only 2-4 taps for growlers though. But last time I was there, I got Bell's Expedition Stout.
