I'm okay with March 1st, then I can actually attend an event for once.

I have never been to HMOG but am a 1S regular. Does this take place in the small upstairs area with all the tables or do they remove the tables for an open area? Reason I'm asking is I love 1S. It's in a big building and very open with long tables. This allows you to move around and talk to other beer geeks like yourself. You get to try a lot of beers because you can move around and many bottles are open at the same time. I just see if you keep the tables upstairs at BSP, this being very hard to move around and most really good bottles being opened at 1-2 tables. If you add the 1S crowd, that place will be elbow to elbow. Someone please enlighten me as I really want to go!

At the peak of the event it has gotten pretty packed, yes. Early and late though there is plenty of room to move around and socialize. You may miss some bottles but you will get to try some amazing stuf. Good bottles are opened at 1S. I don't want to diminsh that but HMOG is once a year and raises funds for a good cause. For those reasons I think everyone busts out some serious stuff. Most of the best beers I have ever had have been at HMOG. I am going for sure.

Thanks jrob21! That is kind of what I thought, I may just come early to support the good cause and pop some good bottles then jet before it gets packed. If you like bottle shares, you should go to huna day or mbcp day, unreal! If these laws change, we could have one of those here in GA.

I will have a better idea what to bring when I get back from Belgium on the 21st. I suspect there might be some Cantillons showing up.

Will this be starting at noon like last year? Going to a concert at 8 so need to pace myself and have time to sober up.

So I am going to try and encourage a couple of friends who are just starting to get into craft beer to this event.

Some have been to bottle shares at my house and that sort of thing, but probably wouldnt have any beers from out of state or rare. I can cover a rare bottle or out of state for anyone I bring, no problem there, but if they want to bring something is bringing a shelf bottle or limited GA bottle going to get them dirty looks? Say they brought something like Oude Tart or some other out $20 shelf bottle.

Should they just leave those at the house and I will provide the beer? My thinking is that there are plenty of bottles at the store that I havent pulled the trigger on but would like to taste, maybe other would feel the same way?

Personally, I certainly wouldn't look down on them or give them a dirty look, but I may choose not to drink what they are bringing since I can go buy it and it sounds like there will be a ton of stuff I would really want to drink (and I can't drink everything). I would probably bring a rare/out of state bottle for them, since this only happens once a year.

I've never been, but I'm looking forward to it. I've gotta have a bottle or two around here that's worthy.

See, this above is what swayed me from going last year. I work 55+ hours a week and I have bills to pay for decades, so I'm not jet setting around the World and loading up on rare beers, nor do I trade much or buy a lot online. It's just not within reach for me to do so. I was warned last year by a regular, albeit no one I know really well, that showing up with anything other than solid gold would get me a lot of evil looks and few people would offer to share their much more valuable stuff with me. While that may not be the attitude with everyone, I really don't enjoy even one person acting like they're better than I am because they scored something I didn't. I'm in the thinking that a bottle share should be fun and a learning experience, I don't open bottles to compete with people, there's just no point.

Mostly folks are happy to share their beer. Like with everything else, I am sure there are a few who are more judgmental, but definitely the minority. I do not always have real whales to bring, but I can usually find something. Being in El Catador now certainly helps.
