I don't know, but I feel like I remember hearing they were targeting having ~300 people in it.

I would be shocked if it was half of that.

What's your thoughts on that? Why so low?

The way it's set up (2/membership on the HS-only bottles, double allocations compared to RS) makes it pretty easy to split, which makes it only $50/person more than the RS. Seems likely that many folks who think RS is worth the money would also think that extra $50 is worth it.

Isn't RS $300? If someone were splitting that then it would only be $150. People would actually have to want a whole allocation because a lot of people were already splitting the basic membership. I do see what you mean with the extra bottles but from the comments I heard here, many people had a hard time coming up with the $150 for basic membership.

But if you are willing to spend $300 for yourself, why not find a partner and an extra $50 and split the HS? That is the point

I understand the point. But how many pairs of people plunked down the $350 each? Thats the question. I am sure it happened. My point is that it didn't happen 300 times.

That is exactly the point and it's almost how it seems how it was designed. As a rough example, in my tasting group, we condensed 6 Reserve Society Memberships in 2012 into 3 Hoarder Society Memberships for 2013. Roughly the same amount of beer to go around, with a few extra perks plus a negligible (in the scheme of a year) amount of additional money

Really? The entire beer trading forum disagrees with your premise.

Really? 2 people equals the entire trading forum. Ok, lets go with that. What a moronic post. Talking about entire forums disagreeing, I seem to remember this whole forum being on fire and in an uproar, prompting Patrick to post in defense.

Lol, yes, my post was the moronic one. Let's go with that.

You are arguing that people would not drop $700 to join a beer "society" that allows them the opportunity to purchase "liquid gold" in terms of the trading forum. Yes, my initial post was a bit tongue-in-cheek and I am sorry you missed that but overall someone believing that people, at least people on BA, would not be willing to drop that kind of money on beer is laughable at best.

Not to be overly snarky, but: my guess is that Patrick Rue does. I'd recommend emailing or beermailing him (PMR here) if you'd prefer find out than hear various speculations.

I gave an opinion. That was it. An opinion. It was not that people wouldn't drop $700 on a beer club. It was that less than 300 did. Did I say no one joined? No, I didn't. Did I say I knew for a fact no one joined? No, I didn't. You want to attribute something to me that I never said, then for good measure, argue about what I never said being wrong......If I knew Patrick Rue I would ask him. The $5,000 to $10,000 I spent with his company the last couple years still doesn't make me feel self important enough to bother him......I guess since the guy above me agrees with me, in your mind, that equals the entire beer trading forum agreeing with me.

My god, I thought it was a simple enough question. So far the answers have been:

    I don't know.
    300
A couple people in a beer tasting group
the entire beer trading universe (and if you question that you are a moron)
    less than 300
    ask patrick
