i go back in forth a lot in my mind over which is my favorite hefe.
its either this guy or the OG mack Weihestenphaner.

regardless, I love me some hofbrau hefe. it tastes great, goes down easy, is so damn refreshing....its one of my favorite beers. so so good.

why is it rated so low?

    someone school me

I've had both and they're both delicious. I gave Weihenstephaner a 4.86 because the flavors are so potent. The banana and clove with the wheatiness make it the quintessential hefe. Hofbrau is solid in it's own right, but the banana and clove aren't as pronounced. There is more of a bubble gum flavor, which isn't bad by any means. I gave the Hofbrau a 4 and I had it at a Hofbrauhaus in Vegas. It was great, but it didn't completely blow my mind like Weihenstephaner does every time I have it.

EDIT: And according to this website a 4 is outstanding.

Is it rated low? The Hobrau Hefe Weizen has an 87, not low at all in my book. Is this what you're talking about?

    i see an 84
its not LOW but i feel its right up there with the best of them. i think a 90-92 would be more appropirate

Yeah it has an 87. It has this score because 482 people rated it and this is the score it averaged. Most of them listed the reasons for their ratings in their reviews. Also the bros rated it a 98. I have learned that when the bros score is a lot different then the BA average, trust the bros over the average.

Kind of confusing which one you're referring to. This is the one I'm referring to, which it redirects to from "Hofbrau Hefe Weizen": http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/4686/3836

I'm always befuddled when the majority of people don't share the exact same taste bud opinion as my own.

It's not as high as you'd think because most people clearly don't like it as much as you do.

It's one of my top 3 hefeweiss beers, should be higher than 84.

Unless it's people rating it from the green glass bottles and not draft.

Personally I have found a very diverse allegiance within the German Hefe beers between my beer buddies. Having had most of the major German offerings on tap in the Fatherland I would personally list my top ones: Weihenstephaner/Schneider Tap 7/Schneider Tap 1/Ayinger. Hofbrau is a solid hefe but just doesn't stand out in any particular way. Once again, everyone has opinions but by all means drink what you like. Ratings be damned. Prost
