I bought a case yesterday. I'll be sad when it's gone, but I plan on drinking at least 2 every day, every day. When it's gone, it's gone. Beer is beer and it's made to be consumed and enjoyed.

I really dislike double IPAs. I'd rather have a super hoppy single IPA and have a few of them and not be drunk and get diabeetus.

    I fkn love this beer.

What I was getting at is the fact that I dislike double IPAs, but I love this beer.

Great representation of the style IMO

I saved one bottle from last year to experiment with. I am not in the crowd that believes every old ipa automatically becomes a barelywine, but this one really did. Actually, it was still quite hoppy. Of course that sweetness was very dominate, but it tasted like many great American Barleywines that I have had. Pleasantly surprised. That being said, I am drinking them all this year:slight_smile:

Do not know if I would age Hopslam but a bottle of 2012 D.F.H. 120 I drank in Jan of 2016 was out of this world good.

I've been drinking Hopslam since 2008 but never attempted cellaring it until 2 releases ago. I let a bottle sit for 12 months and fully regretted it. I also enjoy both English and American barleywines if you want to take that into consideration. The hops presence, for me, disintegrated and the sweetness had a weird stale taste to it.

My vote is to cut the cord and drink them all fresh....it will always be there next year :grinning:

Drank within a week 25 bucks in Florida. So I'll miss it until next year

Had a 1 month old and one year old side by side. Hopslam does not age gracefully.

I have to say, I love it fresh....however, I have had a handful with a year on them and it is a completely different experience. As said before...more like a barleywine. Stiil good, but different

I love Hopslam fresh. About 5-6 months in, though, I think that it's fantastic.

I enjoyed the Super Bowl festivities at a buddy's house. He shared a flight of Hopslam. One was a fresh can, one bottle was stored in his cellar for a year and the other bottle sat in the back of his refrigerator for one year.

The results are just as you would expect. The fresh Hopslam was the clear winner. While the cellared bottle had certainly fallen from its glory, it was still a fine beer. There was still some citrus notes to it that I wasn't expecting. I don't know if I would go so far as to call the one year old cellared bottle a barleywine at this point though.

The one year old refrigerated bottle was interesting. While the hops and citrus notes of the one year old refrigerated bottle had faded in comparison to the fresh Hopslam, the one year old refrigerated bottle more closely resembled the fresh Hopslam than it did the cellared one year old Hopslam.

Drink your Hopslam fresh. Then drink other fresh IPAs in the spring, summer and fall. Then purchase more fresh Hopslam next January. Repeat loop.

    Hey everyone,

Picked up two six packs of Hopslam this year at about one week after the canning date and found them to be fairly hot and oddly bitter. I drank the first six pack within 2 weeks of purchase and just now have got into my second one. Im about 1/2 way into the first beer of the second sixer and it seems like it tastes much better than it did three weeks ago. Has anyone else noticed Hopslam tasting better with 1-2 months on it? This is my first year living in bells distribution footprint, meaning its my first year having Hopslam, so I'm curious if this is a common thing with this beer.

Maybe. It being brewed with honey might have something to do with it. Seems like of all the IPAs seasonally released across our calendar/country it isn't the most fresh dependent one out there. I will continue to drink it as fresh as possible, it's a hot beer IMHO and I don't mind that, but 2 months max? Sure.

Yeah I'm definitely not recommending 2+ months but for some reason it seems that its tasting better than ever right now at a little over 1 1/2 so I doubt my remaining cans will make it threw the rest of the week.

There are so many factors that go into an experience of a beer (food consumed in the preceding hours/days, drinks consumed in previous days/weeks, mood, time of day, etc.) I think that it is extremely difficult to pin down a difference in experience to one variable such as age. Likewise, it is possible that your palette adjusted to it to some extent. Regardless, it's really tough to tell. For what it's worth, I have not heard of people preferring Hopslam with slight age or commenting that there is much of a difference. But I guess we'll see.

Hopslam hot? I dunno I think hoptimum or resin or even enjoy by is hotter. However, I will be slowly drinking mine too, my friend.. I know I'll be bashed for this but, 10%abv, in a can, and I've had it refrigerated cold as hell less than two weeks old til now.. I'm sure I can get 4-5 month out of it.
