I'm off with the family for a break to Majorca it just over a week. Though I'm looking forward to it I'll tell you I'm just dreading the beer situation. From anyone's experience is there anything there actually worth drinking?
Or should I just go to Plan B and throw in a few cans of Punk IPA in the luggage when the Mrs isn't looking?
    Help.

We should organise a red cross parcel -esque delivery charity for situations like this.

Top notch idea. Better patent it before someone nicks it.

For the love of God KEEP AWAY FROM SHIT MIGUEL!!!!!!!! The best beers throughout Spain are from the Damm brewery. Although not many places stock it drink Voll Damm (7.5%ABV) and also their take on a schwarzbier called Bock Damm (5%) Damm are based in Barcelona but have a brewery in Palma so if you plan on visiting the capital it should be fairly easy to find a bar that stocks either of these beers. Also, go to the supermacardos and 6 packs of Voll Damm should be on sale. The bock damm is less widely available but you should still be able to find some of that somewhere. Hope this little bit of info helps, mind you having said all this things could have quite easily changed as it is 10 years since I last went to Mallorca. Their everyday draught lager is the best of the beers offered by the bars.
    Enjoy the sun!!

The Corte Ingles supermarkets (usually in the basement) are the easiest places to find decent beer in Spain. Usually have a selection of Belgian, German and English beers.

I'm liking the cans in luggage idea. I was in York's beer shop yesterday and saw Brooklyn lager in cans!

It's been about 10 years since I went to Mallorca, but I don't recall seeing any decent beer over there. I suspect it may exist but will be hard to find, so it's easy to chuck some in the luggage (after all, you don't have to lug it back).

I second the recommendation above for beers from Barcelona's Damm brewery. And who knows, you might even stumble across some Catalunyan craft beer....

Thanks for all the tips folks. Definitely take some Punk cans and will keep my eyes out for the recommendations.

Now that I'm back I really can appreciate your post. Only ever ended up having Estrella Damm lager, in cans and on draft but for a run of the mill beer it was a pleasant surprise. Followed your advice on the San Miguel but the wife bought a six pack and out of sheer curiousity I tried a can. Holy horrendous. Surely one of the worst beers I've tried in recent memory.

Managed to find a bottle of Hopus at a smart deli in Acudia which stocked a small but superbly selected range of Begium beers which is now sitting in my fridge. Nice one.

And BTW, never did take any cans of Punk in my baggage thinking that BrewDog gets enough publicity as it is. So I supped a bottle of Stewart Hollyrood Ale and Bear Republic Red Rocket Ale on the hotel balcony instead. Better choices allround I'd say.

So, you succumbed and tasted the forbidden fruit!!! I will have to put you with Eve :-))))))).
I also forgot to mention to avoid Mahou as well. I had a pint of that for the very first time the last time I visited Spain and that first pint was once too often. I asked for 'Mahou' and the waiter looked at me like I had arrived from another planet before replying "Mahou" in a voice that resembled something like a cat miaowing whilst being strangled. I should have known by his response that he would return to me with a glass of cat piss! Horrible stuff that is on an equal par with Shit Miguel.
Cruzcampo is just a tiny bit better and I say that 'loosely'. One pint to slake your thirst on a warmish day is okay but don't expect any flavour. The only thing I can say positively about Cruzcampo is that it doesn't start fermenting in your stomach as quickly as the other two so called beers do.
Sainsbury's carry Estrella Damm in bottles if you are interested.
