I hate the ambiance of a bar when there's waiters sprawling across the scene with platters going around to meet and take orders, foaming the place up, with people gorging and installing the chaos of food service. It encourages a sit-down environment as opposed to an open bar social space where everyone is up walking around and sharing, like Cellador, Green Cheek, Mumford, or Sante, etc.

The Dankness Dojo is also a restaurant and I find it boring as shit. Same with Beachwood, Propagator. Basically I don't want the place to be family friendly.

so you find a place that serves no food to be more interesting than one that does?

I find that food and drink go together pretty well, and make for a convivial atmosphere. also, you don't have to eat

sometimes tasting rooms that are just tasting rooms can feel a little sterile and boring to me

He probably takes pictures with the glasses in center of the table, that heathen.

I think cheese, cured meats, snacks etc are perfectly cool. I prefer tasting rooms done right, like Sante. More intimate, beer focused. I think Homage's site in Pomona is a great environment. It is about the beer, not about people gorging.

If you're that much of a beer-first purist, you could always sit on the patio at Beachwood (or MT), I'm sure the ambient air out there isn't going to interfere too much with whatever you're trying to find in your glass.

As for the Dojo...I find it boring as shit too, but that's because their vegan menu is comprised almost entirely of fried, imitation meat products and barely any real veggie dishes. At least TRY to live up to your ethos, instead of half-assing it.

Well, I mean the patio in Beachwood is a bunch of tables more than a bar area. I like standing around talking to people, like people do at bars or tasting rooms, cozy. Standing around at Beachwood... I just don't like Beachwood as a place. It feels cold, ugly and corporate.

And I just hate breweries that are family friendly and have kids around. I am not a nice person.

I love Homage in Pomona, though. That's my jam. Sante too, as I mentioned, and Cellador... etc.

Could not agree more. Far too many menu items that are fried or have imitation meat. They should take a page from Seabirds...
