A smash might be a good idea for a first brew, but maybe you want to have at least 5% of SOMETHING else in there to make it a slight bit more interesting.

I've never used MO before, but I'm about to do a batch with it so I can let you know how it turns out. You could substitute for it with a blend of pale malt and biscuit I think. I think another option might be to roast a portion of your pale malt. I don't have any experience with this, so you'd have to google around for more info.

I kind of need some more MO, but I don't need a full 25k bag. Maybe I could order one and we could split it up and you could just pay for the part that you need? Let me know if you come up with a final recipe.

I might be willing to part with my corona mill if you'd like to buy it off of me. It works fine, but I'm tired of hand cranking. I'd like to upgrade to a roller.

As for the hops, that all comes down to personal preference.

i think thats a good idea. a smash with a little extra added in. it may not be a smash anymore, but close enough for me anyway.

go ahead and order up the MO. i'm into it, as i have really nothing to lose. everything is new to me at this point, and people seem to like it, so. will you order from brouwland? depending on how much you want, i will be good for half of it, or perhaps a bit less. let me know the details and we can figure it out.

as for the corona, i'm interested. as long as it's still in good working order and a bit cheaper than the one i am planning to order online, i want it. how much will you let it go for? and how soon?

also, any other equipment you're looking to part with? i'm in the market for some gear, currently...

I think that the corona mill is all I'm willing to part with right now. I suppose I could let it go for 40€. It's still in new condition I suppose. I don't think those things really wear out easily. I just ordered a new mill for myself, but I'm not sure when it will arrive. I might need the corona mill still next week. Would Jan. 6th be too late?

When do you need the grain?

that sounds great. the 6th is fine. let's just plan on an exchange when we meet at LB.

i will be ordering my gear this week sometime, so likely will not have everything for a couple of weeks. i imagine if you order this week, whenever you receive it will work fine for me.

    i think i've decided on a recipe:

lot's of great feedback on this one with the ingredients i'm looking to use. it's not a smash after all, so i guess that i'll have to try that some other time. as for a conversion to biab, you say beersmith can manage that pretty well? i suppose a bit of math could take care of that as well, but math is not my jam.

I'm not sure if you can really just hit a button to convert it to BIAB. I'm out of the country right now and I left that laptop back in Austria, so I can't really help you with this right now. I'm not really sure if you need to do anything different to convert for BIAB. I imagine that your efficiency is going to be lower than the one in the recipe, so check your estimated OG and adjust the grains. Plus I suppose you need to scale the recipe for your brew length if you're doing a 3 gal batch. I'm sure you can figure this stuff out. Beersmith isn't that hard to use.

The recipe looks good to me!

do you have a suggestion for the "Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM)" portion of the recipe? i've seen a few caramel and crystal malts, but i'm not too sure what would be best to go with.

I just moved here from the states as well. Any leads develop on brew supplies in Vienna? Plenty online but a good in town supply shop is super valuable.

In july I'm off for a citytrip in Vienna. Any recommendations for a good beershop or a good pub ?
