I've seen mention of a packed HD bucket used in beer trades. Seems like it could be great or a waste of space. Of course, some advantages I can think of are a sealed bucket the limits of any leaks and maybe muting the sound of liquid. Anyone have insight on packing the bucket or want to give a short tutorial? Looking forward to the comments.
I've never seen this, but looks interesting. I probably would not use for trading, but maybe for plane travel. They are sturdy. Would have to see if cans/bottles fit well in their diameter. If it is a pretty tight fit (with some padding space) seems like it could work. 5 bucks or so with a lid looks like the going rate. Not bad, but adds that much on top of your shipping costs if used for trading.
I could be wrong, but it seems like your costs would be a lot higher for shipping outside the cost of the bucket because of the extra weight and irregularity of the package shape.
The difference in weight between a bucket and a box is pretty insignificant compared to the weight of the beer. I don't think the fact that its cylindrical matters either, it probably costs the same as the smallest rectangular box that it would fit into (assuming the same weight). It doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.
I have only heard of this for shipping "Big" bottles. Magnums should bit, but I am also referring to whales. If I was shipping a KBBS, I would 100% absolutely put it in the center of one of those buckets and into a box that fit it, with nothing else. I've never had a whale like that to ship, so maybe that's overkill. But that's my thought.
My buddy filled up a bucket of cans from Trillium and Tree House , (around 20 IIRC) with bubble wrap. Sealed the bucket, which was inside of a bigger box.(a used 12 shipper box) The package arrived perfectly safe. And the best of all, I have a brand new bucket for painting! I would highly recommend the bucket! I can hear sloshy from most boxes, and I've never had a problem in my area. Either shipping or receiving on their end.(and I ship alot)
I received beer in a bucket once It is great protection for the bottles but it might be overkill. The bottles were wrapped in bubblewrap. The bucket was filled with peanuts. The box was filled with peanuts and newspaper. It was a really big box for 5 bottles though. I currently use that bucket to keep my packing tape, wrap etc
