I am interested to find out if the majority of people who homebrew drink mostly their own stuff as opposed to the commercial BMC and craft beers out there.

I would probably estimate closer to 50/50, but with a slightly edge to commercial stuff... At least for now.

Homebrew at home and often at parties and other social gatherings. Commercial when out at a pub. But overall, more homebrew I think.

ETA: I'm curious as to why you picked the commercial examples you did. I suspect Bud and Coors Light don't have a lot of fans here.

Pretty evenly split for myself also, I would say. I don't anticipate ever having the time to generate enough home brew throughput to have enough variety on-hand to quell every beer craving I have. I also have to rely on commercial beer for certain styles that I haven't yet built up to trying to brew for myself....sours primarily, but that's next on the docket.

I chose Commercial in the poll only because I haven't brewed in over a year. If I have homebrew available I'll still drink some commercial beers for variety because I don't think that I've ever brewed enough of my own beer in a short period of time to have a homebrew variety.

I am with @VikeMan across the board. At home and gatherings, homebrew. Out at restaurants or pubs, then commercial Craft Beer only (never BMC). But I drink more homebrew since I drink more at home than I go out. I do buy a few commercial beers to drink at home when I have a hankering for a specific beer (B15 Sticky Hands) or when I am out of that particular type of beer on the homebrew side, or rare beers from the cellar.

I too wonder why you put Bud, Coors, Heineken, as your choices... and then Sierra Nevada and Troegs.

I put those beers because people on here tend to go out and have the BMC beers as well. For instance, St. Patty's Day parade is this weekend where I live. Will probably start with craft then move to the AALs.

Well, I could be wrong, but I've been here (the homebrewing forum) for many years, and I think for the most part they don't. But now I understand why you listed them.

Happy to be drinking homebrew 90% of the time.

Drinking more and more homebrew these but since I only have one keg I tend to have a pale/IPA on tap then buy stouts/porters. Then when I have a stout on tap I buy a lighter beer. Since I have 5 gallons of homebrew at a time I usually drink @2 beers of homebrew to 1 commercial, excluding going to restaurants/bars/breweries. However, I drink at home most of the time.

I said 'Homebrew' but on second thought, I probably drink more commercial. I give a lot of homebrew away so at most I probably get half the batch for my own consumption. Then I frequently have to restock bottles so I'll buy commercial and drink all of those. And the occasional canned beer, I prefer that format but usually I buy for the dual purpose of reusing the bottles.

Also, every time I order beer out at the bar it's not my own homebrew. So I'm pretty sure in all I drink more commercial.

I'm on the same page as @VikeMan and @jbakajust1 too for the most part. I drink almost exclusively homebrew at home and when with friends, but going out obviously lends itself to commercial beers on tap. Today was the first time in 2016 I purchased beer for home consumption. I had planned on going all year without buying packaged commercial beer, but a minor surgery which will prevent me from lifting a full carboy or kettle for a month or two put a dent in my pipeline.

I brew a 5 gallon batch once a week and it is just enough to not have to buy beer very often. I usually only buy beer when i'm on a trip, at bars, or see something new or am doing "research" for my buddy's blog

I tend to drink about 85% homebrew and 15% commercial. When I'm at a restaurant (not often), I'll have a commercial beer. If I'm at a friend's who doesn't homebrew, I bring along homebrew for him to try and sometimes accept a commercial beer. When I go to a local beer meeting, most bring homebrew, but some also bring new or hard to get commercial beers to try. I also try new commercial beers from time to time or have some on hand when my supply runs low, or if a guest prefers commercial (although I absolutely refuse to stock Bud Light or Coors Light). I once had Bud Light on tap at a dinner, and it is the first free beer in my life that I had to spit out. It was the worst beer (if one can call it that) that I've ever had, and the only one that I couldn't keep down. It wasn't that it had gone bad, as everyone else seemed to enjoy it.

If I lived in Canada I would probably be drinking more homebrew. That stuff in the great white north is expensive.........

Definitely more homebrew, but still drink commercial for "scientific research purposes"

Not now :-) you save 34% on your dollar. For every $US you can purchase $1.34 worth of Canadian goods. That's why so few are travelling to the US lately.
