After some research into Perle I must agree with you! Doesn't seem to be anything I want to mess with!

Perle is a nice hop for certain brews, just not a replacement for galixy

My first year plants have done pretty well. I have a good number of cones forming now, but I have read that cones wont produce much resin in the first year or two.

Is there any point in using first year hop cones or am I wasting my time there?

My hops died last year and I didn't bother watering them much this year. I've written them off.

For those who have brewed with wet hops in the past, what is the best use for them, assuming I can get my hands on some? Would you rather use them as a hopstand addition or "dry hop" with them if you could only choose one?

If I can choose only one I'd say hop stand. I have had good luck with dry hopping but prefer a little heat with the hops, thus hop stand

My chinook are ready, my centennials smell like raw onions this year. No thanks.

thanks @GormBrewhouse ! the info that came with my rhizomes said that they wont produce much lupulin untill their third summer, but I guess that doesnt mean there will be none this year.

Will probably chuck em in wet in a big ole whirlpool addition

    cheers!

I'm putting 6-8 ozs of dried Cascades in the freezer 2 or 3 times per week with no end in sight. I've got new burrs forming all the time. I would pick hops again today but it's raining finally.

My wife inherited 5 acres of farmland in France, lease to her youngest brother for another 5 years. But he and I are going to try a small test plot next spring to see if we can't start a hop farm with American hop varieties. I talked to some brewers in the area and they'd all love to be able to buy local hops. So we'll start with 1/4 acre of Cascades and see hoiw they do. If it works I'm retiring and moving to France to grow hops.

So I planted first year Northern Brewer, Glacier, Bramling, and Spalt Select hops this spring. The Northern Brewer was ready first, I harvested all of .5 oz dry off them this week, lol. Judging by the amount of sidearms and burrs on the others I should get a lot more from the other three varieties. Would still be surprised if I got more than a few ounces each though. None of the others are quite ready yet, looks like the Spalt Select will be next, followed by Bramling then the Glacier. I wasn't really expecting much of anything for the first year, so I'll take what I can get.

I gave up on growing my own hops for flavor reason like this. I don’t know what happens within the pelletizing process, but commercial hops don't have the vegetable organic grassy flavors of my homegrown. Even the commercial leaf are better.

A lot has to do with the drying...I still use proprietary hops exclusively for aroma

Has anyone used vast amounts of fresh hallertau mittelfruh in any beers? I'm going to do a wet hop ale with mine in the not too distant future and will have a fair amount. Was thinking of an historic IPA that would use lots of EKG for bittering and flavour
