Looks like a decent haul for a first year. Much better than my first year, which IIRC was measured in grams before drying......not enough to measure ounces.

@riptorn, thanks, I also have a Horizon but it’s not going to be as good a yield. I think it’s too close to some trees so it’s not getting enough sun.

@riptorn that is unusual. I seen our Cascade grow them out like that closer to the top of the cone but not like that.

Same, I’ve seen my Cascade grow baby leaves through the tops of the hop cones. Not sure why that happens.

Just a portion of what I harvested. I had 5# 10.3 oz wet and 23.6 oz dry from three first year plants. And one of them only had 1.6 oz wet and .4 dry. I’m guessing it’s pretty good for the first year.

@Jasonja1474, thanks! Some pale ales and a pumpkin stout and winter warmer for sure. I want to try brewing a SMASH with BestMalz Red X. I think that might be interesting. Not sure what else.

I had to buy all new rhizomes back in 2020 I think to plant at our new house. In 21 and 22 they did really great, not much production but they plant growth was very good. This year we were out of the country from may until the end of August, but I counted on my automatic drip system to keep everything in the garden alive if not thriving. Unfortunately, sometime in late July (according to my friend who visited the house twice a week) everything died. It did not rain a single time while we were gone, and a freaking squirrel got into my pumphouse and destroyed my jet pump that pumps from the well tank to the house and the outdoor spigots. Everything died. If the plants don't come back this next spring I'm done growing hops, after 20 years of growing and harvesting my own hops.

Interesting, I have found my older c hop plants yielding less quality cones then when they were younger.
    So
I,m digging up the poorest performers and replacing them with goldings and fuggles next spring. We drink more of the dark beers and they preform well, tho they are low yielding plants.
