Have you guys tried treehouse or Trillium? That's how all these popular ipas are nowadays. MurKY as all hell, but tasty lol

Yes, and while they are murky, Hoof takes it to a bit of a different level.

I was bottling a home brew DIPA this past weekend and I siphoned a little bit of beer mixed with Star San into a glass when I was getting the flow started and it looked exactly like a cloudy hoof beer.... :astonished:

I guess I'll never understand why the appearance of a beer matters so much as long as the taste is on point. Oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don't really get it either. I think their beers are pretty sexy looking personally. I love the cloudiness.

It doesn't really matter to me. I had a few of the cans last night and they were good. Just saying that it is quite ugly.

So I am originally from Pittsburgh and live in Kentucky. I plan to be making trips back home a little bit more with my mom being sick. I know they go on sale on Sundays which is a convenient time for me but was wondering what some of their best IPAs and Doubles were from people on here. I can check BA but just curious what the forum posters enjoy. Never had one of their beers but want to get a four pack from one of their ticketed events soon.

I'd hold out for Roller Blabe which should be coming soon (sometime in March). Outside of that the other big ones are Konkey Dong and Dragonsaddle. Would love to see them can the new fruited Konkey Dong.

I think Konkey Dong is the best beer I have had from them, easily.

As far as the appearance goes, it doesn't matter to me one way or another. What I find amusing are the people that think a 'turbid' IPA is somehow better than a clear IPA, just because it looks like a milkshake.

The difference I have found, whether real or imagined, is that the hazy ipas have a twangy zesty thing(almost estery) to them and their flavor profile seems to come and go rather quickly. That characteristic isn't unique to those beers but all that I have had seem to share said profile.

I saw someone say in another thread (about the Hoof beer released yesterday) that "It looks awesome!" I have no clue why people would think that because a beer is super murky, that it must be awesome.
    \_(ツ)_/¯

I shall refrain from comment, but my no comment probably speaks volumes. Haha

I'm not too interested in their release this Sunday. Anyone else in my boat?

Well if they just said "it looks awesome" then that doesn't mean they were implying the beer itself was awesome, right? Seems just as subjective and valid as saying that an IPA looks ugly because it's hazy.

By saying "It looks awesome", one could probably conclude that the poster thinks that by the looks of the beer, it will be good. You are free to interpret it however you'd like. This is how I interpret it.

Generally speaking, I don't like to consume things that look like pond water. It does taste good, though, so I'll make an exception.

Traditionally speaking, murky or cloudy beers could stem from many things, most of which are considered imperfections or errors. Examples are, but not limited to; lack of proper yeast attenuation, yeast not properly flocculating, suspension of protein hazes from lack of cold crashing, abundance of proteins from protein rich grains like wheat, etc.... The haziness in Hoof Hearted beers most likely comes from over abundance of dry hopping, which we can agree leads to awesome tasting hoppy beers, but in the traditional sense of what finished, or "bright" beer should be, this would be a defect.

This is all true. However, considering they themselves refer to their beer as "trill juice," I think we can all agree that traditional IPA standards are not something Hoof Hearted cares to strive for.

I agree completely. I was just responding to why some people may comment on the quality of the beer based on appearance alone.

Those were my thoughts, until I tried the Everybody Wants Some Citra yesterday. I had about 3 glasses of it yesterday (one on-site and two back home from my growler) and it's REALLY good. Honestly, all of the EWS series have been great, but I liked Konkey Dong more than Equinox and Nelson. I think I liked Blabe the least out of the EWS series and Konkey Dong.

Hey guys where can I find out where Hoof Hearted distros to? I'm in Madison WI for the week and wanted to see the best hops the Midwest had to offer (I've had Surly Todd, Zombie Dust and some TG stuff). I'm from NJ fwiw.
