Did Hoof up the can limit yesterday? Curious if we'll see any distro this week with leftovers.

They did. Allowed (4) 4-packs if you wanted.

My cousin and I also thought the latest batch of Konkey Dong was a lot different than the first. FYI.

agree that KD was different than the last two batches, but it's still delicious. None of their beers have been that deep orange haze as of late. I'll have to try to find some comparison photos of batch 1-2 and then put them next to batch 3. Either way. I dig it and could drink it the rest of the summer.

I'm not 100% sure the first two were different batches. Also, the last one is from a growler so take that for what it's worth.

Definitely different batches, but this most recent was by far the best IMO

I don't care what it looks like, and I don't remember batch to batch, but when I had a can of dong this round, it was smooth, no harsh bite, and had a touch of boozy heat at the end. That's how I like my dong. But if we are talking looks, I think wang looks better than dong. Think the aroma has been consistent on the dong I've had too. Thought?

:grinning: I'm just glad the female anatomy is starting to get some equal representation on these beer labels, especially with the recent announcement of Skin Frootz.

Simcoe is realllllly good. On par with EWS Citra, IMO. Pineapple and pine all the way around.

A bartender informed me that some of the HH staff were taking a trip to Maine this coming weekend, hence the off week. My guess is that they self distro up there to their account(s). Has anyone heard about this before?

Yes, I have heard this before. Allegedly one of the owners/investors is from the area.

At the very least, this indicates to me that the "off" weeks should remain consistent. They would probably need to hire more to staff Marengo and distribute to Maine in the same weekend.

So even though ratings dont really mean much, I found it interesting today while surfing on Untappd that EWS Simcoe is the highest rated Hoof beer now. Beating Blabe, Konkey and even Dragonsaddle for average score.

I personally think it really is the best out of them all, with EWS Citra there as well, but I expected Konkey to be the clear winner given the popularity.

That's odd, I think that says to me that the classically piney, earthy hops are still a big favorite amongst IPA drinkers. I'm not a big fan of the base brew that EWS uses, and Simcoe is one of my least favorite hops, but I haven't had this version yet so I couldn't say for certain. Would like to give it a whirl but probably won't happen at this point.

At least with EWS, the simcoe comes across more juicy and not so much earthy or piney for me. I noticed some pineapple and citrus out of it, very faint pine if I really tried. The mouthfeel is also spot on, the most "smooth" mouthfeel I've had from them, the carbonation and body is just right. They just seemed to nail this batch compared to the others. Also, the bitterness is balanced very well.

I personally didn't care at all for Equinox or Nelson... Idaho7 and Vic Secret were OK, Citra was awesome but had a narrow drink window (too young and harsh, got perfect a few weeks then faded out). Hopefully Simcoe holds up over the next few months!

Hopefully you come across a can to try at some point! If you went, offer up some Konkey for it locally if you can, it's worth trading for. I'm sure someone would swap those who couldn't get Konkey.

EWS order for me, Nelson > Idaho7 > Citra/Vic Secret > Equinox. I didn't like Equinox. The rest were great. I haven't had Simcoe or Centennial either.

Citra > Simcoe > VS > Idaho 7 for me.

Definitely more juice than pine for this one. Excellent.

I did a 4:4 swap for Simcoe even though Konkey is my favorite Hoof beers. I'm glad I did! Simcoe and Citra are tied for my favorite EWS beer. Totally different beers but I like how great this Simcoe tastes right off the bat, unlike Citra. However, Citra was canned the day it was released and recently they've been canning a few days prior to release.
