Hey all, If you know about these things, how do you deal with them? Hop Aphids by Matthew deBeaupre, on Flickr
Insecticidal oils are also a safe alternative http://extension.colostate.edu/topic-areas/insects/insect-control-horticultural-oils-5-569/
Ladybugs. I released a bucket full a few years ago, and they loooooove my hop bines. The larvae are particularly voracious, I placed one on a tomato plant that was infested with aphids, within a day or two they were gone.
Don't over fertilize and if they get out of hand, I wouldn't hesitate to use some Malathion before cones/burrs form, imho
+1 to not fertilize too much. Excessive fertilizer , especially nitrogen and phosphorus will bring in the bugs strong as well as disease. Oil sprays are good but everything I have read says use up until the burrs are out. They you can hope or switch to synthetics.
