    Hey beer advocates,

First off I'm new to brewing. I decided to add some oak chips to the secondary with some weight to keep it off the top. First day it worked great but as the yeast picked up a bit (as it does after re-rack) the next day the bag unraveled with the weight at bottom and chips at the top. To keep from opening the carboy again I decided to find a neodymium magnet and see if I could attract the metal weight. Needless to say it just so happened to be next to the side of the carboy and attached quickly. From there I easily pulled it down to the bottom and now the chips are somewhere in the middle. Hot damn! LOL.

Glad to be a part of the Beer Advocate community. Cheers!

Good thinking, but the real problem is all the head space in your secondary
