Loved this one. The higher ABV and slightly higher sugar content really lent that pine to get sticky. Nice citrus and almost a champagne like grapeyness to it. Think this has been the highest rated of the beers I've had from the box but think this and the Beachwood x El Segundo collab are neck and neck for favorite.
YES!! Outstanding Hop Butcher, you kinda out West Coasted the West Coasters with Sap Moss. I like the blend, mouthfeel and taste. Definitely a keeper. PLEASE SHIP TO TEXAS! This beer will be gone too fast. Prolly the best of the box with 2 more to go. SEE! ^^ 'Sheppard' ^^ likes it too! And he gets lots of great IPAs in Massachusetts.
I do get a lot of great IPAs up here, but not enough West Coast IPAs, especially considering a lot of the (once) big players have pulled back. Would love to see more from Hop Butcher here for sure!
Undecided for the most part about this one. I liked the clarity. It seems to be missing a certain bitterness level for a West Coast IPA. Tasty interaction between the white grape and the sweet orange citrus; it has a sweet candy notion, and this extends to the sticky mouth feel. I allowed this to warm more in the glass, and I enjoyed the taste more as the beer warmed. Higher ABV% is evident. I would like to try this again.
This beer and Hello, LA are my favorites in the clubhouse five beers into the box. 4.35/5 rDev +5.8% look: 4.25 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25 Pours a beautiful unfiltered golden straw color with a sudsy white head that provides little to no lacing, which is a bit surprising. Very nice dank citrus notes (oranges and grapefruit) and a bit of pine as well. The taste is led by a very juicy orange flavor, which is delightful, and there’s a nice grapefruit flavor as well, with some pine and some bitterness at the back of the palate, especially as the beer warms (which is key with this beer - allowing it to warm a bit). There’s no discernible alcohol other than a slight warming at the back of the palate, which is pretty incredible given the 8% ABV. The mouthfeel is full and dry, commensurate with the style. Excellent stuff here by Hop Butcher, IMHO.
Really digging this one on a very hot 4th of July here in NC… 4.15/5 rDev +1.2% look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.25 | feel: 4 | overall: 4.25 A: Pours a clear medium golden yellow in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate apricot + peach + bright yellow colored highlights. The beer has a three finger tall dense foamy bright white head that reduces to a large patch of slightly mottled medium thick film covering the entire surface of the beer and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed. S: Moderate to strong aromas of citrus/grapefruit + citrus/grapefruit pith + herbal + grassy hops over the top of light to moderate aromas of bready + biscuit + pale malts with a light amount of sugary sweetness. T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of bready + biscuit + pale malts with a light amount of sugary sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of citrus/grapefruit + citrus/grapefruit pith + herbal + grassy hops which impart a light to moderate amount of aggressive lingering bitterness. M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Slightly crisp initially with a hint of dryness in the finish. O: Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a pleasantly crisp + dry mouthfeel. Refreshing and enjoyable with a more classic C-hop West Coast hop profile. I could easily have a few of these.
I am glad that I read the earlier posts and allowed the beer to warm up slightly. What a great combo of flavors! The dank pine and sticky mouthfeel go well together. The orange flavor became more noticeable as it warmed. What a great West Coast IPA! If this was readily available in my area, I'd be a regular customer.
