Personally, I've never had Hop Cakes so I have no idea how it tastes but agreed. If you market a product as something then the product should be a representation of what it is you marketed in the 1st place (read... in this case, the beer should have some semblance of maple flavor). Again, I haven't had it so I can't provide an informed opinion. Just a general statement and nothing more.

In terms of the seemingly never ending flow of videos coming out of NoDa, perhaps they should put their aspiring acting careers on hold for a bit until they can fix their Hop Drop consistency issue.

I really enjoyed it last year. Will be having some on Friday night. I expect it to be a well above average IPA, at worst.

I bought some today at the original Noda, not the new location on N. Tryon, they were suppose to have some as well.

More cans went out yesterday. Check your Usual Suspect Beer-Gettin' Outlets. Still on draft at the brewery.

I've had it on draft and from the can, it's excellent again this year. I'm glad all you maple syrup junkies don't like it - more for me!

Don't know why I didn't see your post when I was first tagged, but the only way we'll get any is if there's a good amount left at the brewery since I heard we're re-upping on Hop Drop today.

Edit: But it seems like, according to above posts, they're out at the brewery.

I finally had the chance to try Hop Cakes on tap last night and really enjoyed it. I surely didn't pick up any form of maple-like presence in the beer but I do think NoDa definitely nailed the bready - sweet side of what you would expect from a stack of pancakes. The best way I can explain my overall impression regarding the taste is akin to biting into a piece of angel food cake. Not that the beer tasted like angel food cake but that is what I am trying to get at when I say they nailed bready - sweet side of the beer. Hope that overall description makes some form of sense. AnyWho... well done on this one NoDa!

Noda just tweeted they have more cans back in stock at both locations. Not sure if they made more or "found some" but anyways, back in stock at the brewery.

Had this year's on draft and thought it was pretty damn tasty! Hopefully the cans can hold up to more than a few weeks of age this time around.

Not sure if I picked up maple, but it was certainly sweet and syrupy.

They said they still have cans at the tap rooms. They must have a made a ton more this year. Too bad it's not migrating east.

Got a funny / strange story. In my mind anyway. After reading your post a ways back about more cans resurfacing, I reached out to my niece who recently moved from Charlotte to NH and asked if she or her husband knew anyone in Charlotte who could pick me up a couple of 4-packs? Response... "let me see what I can do". About a week goes by and I get a text from my niece saying... I have good new and bad news. The good news is I have your beer. The bad new is... I literally have your beer. Seems her friend packed it up and shipped it to her in NH. Fortunately the story has a good ending in that I was in touch with my youngest nephew who was driving down to Raleigh for a friend's wedding on Sunday. So the two of them orchestrate a hand off in MA and this morning @ 2:45 my nephew comes rolling up the driveway with the 2-4 packs and on top of that a case of Trillium bottles. Talk about the jackpot and damn those Hope Cake cans have some miles on them.

So I had some last weekend at the brewery. I guess I don't get it. It was just an IPA with a tad of sweetness. Did not even taste like maple to me :/
