I saw that B-Hoppy makes hop flavored hard candy - cascade and east kent golding. Has anyone tried these?

Not sure if it was made by "B-Hoppy" but I have received hop candy a few times in my Northern Brewer homebrew packages, cascade hops I believe. Pretty interesting stuff and not bad!

They're not for everyone but the folks who like them seem to REALLY like them. Saaz should be up and running in a month or so and some Galaxy will be around (not for sale though). Stay tuned and remember to 'B-Hoppy" y'all!

I consider myself a hop head and it has been difficult for me to finish some of that hop candy. I think it would be fine if they were smaller, or if I was willing to chew on hard candy.

Sorry you had a hard time with them. It's really strange as I've seen some confirmed 'hop heads' who have nothing nice to say, and then folks tell me their 4-year-old daughter loves them. Individual taste is a very sensitive area and the size of the candy is the most often heard complaint. At this point, the best I can say is to break them in half and consider you got 2-for-1 as it's gonna cost me a big $$ to change the size and I just don't have it right now. Sorry again and thanks for trying!

Thanks for the thoughts on hop candy and the recipe link. I think I will have to give it a try on the homemade level. Shipping for the candy is a bit steep on the homebrew supply sites.

The LHBS sells them, I wasn't a big fan of the East Kent Goldings but liked the Cascade. If anyone wants some I could always pick some up next trip and send a envelope out.

silverX, would that be NT? Bert's a good guy. wiresiren, I've got a bunch of customers scattered across the country but not many sell online. If you let me know your general area I may have a customer near you. Hop on!

Shipyard up in Portland sells it and so do these guys: https://www.beerbrew.com/?path=Hours_mhe. Or you could message me and I'll send you some to try. You just have to promise to get me a customer up in NH (haha). Hope this helps!

No problem. They put both flavors out on the counter for people to try. There are fans for both. Hope they are big enough fans to keep it in the shop.

I bought 2 sampler packs of B Speedy's hop candy. It's hard to tell the thre varieties apart. All of tj
Have similar flavor profiles. The taste is floral and grassy. A mild pine essence, and a little but fruity. And, unfortunately, sickeningly sweet. It's cloying to the point that it's pleasant only for a short amount of time, and since hops are known for their bitterness as much as their aroma, it ruins the whole purpose of this candy in my opinion. I was hoping for a hoppy beer substitute when at work. Instead, it's a substitute for straight corn syrup. If B-Hoppy can find a way to temper tye sweetness of the sugary base With a bittering agent or even a much larger amount of Hop extract, they would have a masterpiece on ther hands. As it is, they have an interesting substitute for classic
Boiled sweets, but not a fix for the hop cravings
We IPA lovers have during the work day. Delicious in its own way, but not what I was hoping. Still looking for that bitter, all-day, non-alcoholic substitute for the hoppy brew that i get
To enjoy at The end of the work day. I give these candies a C+. I have to admit, though, that I wpuld have given them a low D yesterdat. These grow on you fast. I'll order again, but I'll hope
That B Speedy expands the candies into less-sweet varieties.

"boiled sweets"? Maybe you know my new competitor: http://www.hopdrops.co.uk/, haha! Thanks for the feedback eric222222 and sorry you're not a big fan, can't win 'em all. If you like bitterness, maybe you should try the version my competitor (former customer) makes: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/08/dining/for-dad-candy-made-from-beer.html?_r=0 . If I bought a product and didn't like it, I'd be disappointed. And even more disappointed if there was another similar product, but no one had bothered to tell me about it. Maybe I'd like that one better, but being that I didn't know about it, I'm just still disappointed. Well, I live the way I live, so here's your option. Personally, I feel he went a little overboard with the bitterness but everyone has a palate that is unique, so take it for what it's worth. By the way, where'd you get the candy?

    Hoppy Trails~

ps: wiresiren, you'll be glad to know that Gretchen should have her new order of 'B-Hoppy' by Saturday. Tell her and Alex I appreciate their help!

Slightly off topic, but I refer to 98% of Lagunitas beer as hop candy.

One of the many things I've yet to get around to is making what I call lolli-hops. A lollipop made with some really good hoppy IPA .
