    Hi everyone!

New here. Went through the forum looking for a place to present myself but i never did find such thread in case I missed it!
Going to brew(all grain) an IPA on monday, I haven't really thought through the recipe much but i had a question on a hop combination I was thinking about.

    Summit, Saaz, Magnum and Williamette.
How do they go together? Any recommendations?
I don't know when ill be adding them to the brew, I'm still figuring that out but I will def. be using those hops, some if not all at least.

Well.. I'd probably use the Magnum to bitter, and then you are left with Summit, Saaz and Willamette left.

None of those really go together in my mind, and I don't like Summit, but you could try using the saaz and willamette late in the boil, and then dry hop with the summit. Or use the summit and willamette in the boil, and then dry hop with the saaz.

Which would you recommend the most for dry hopping?
    Thanks for replying btw!

How set are you on those hops?

If set on those...almost only 1 permutation...as FATC1TY suggested, Magnum to bitter and Summits to DH...you won't taste the other ones anyway (after using Summit) so throw them in the boil late sometime.

I'd think about it some more. Cheers and welcome to BA homebrewing

If you use Summit for anything but the bittering addition, it will totally dominate. Thus, if you wish to get any character out of the other hops, use the Summit for bittering and only the Willammette, Saaz, and Magnum for late additions. I do think that these three would work OK together. That said, it won't be a typical IPA. If you want Summit character, then use the Magnum for bittering and the Summit for late additions, and save the other two hops for something else.

Im not entirely set on those 4 hops, I could stop by and order a few different hops. I did want to try something bitter yet citrusy for my next IPA but really hop at thr same time. I was thinking of getting maybe, citra and cascade and use 2 of thr 4 hops i mentioned earlier?

1 Oz magnum at First Wort Hops
    1 Oz cascade 20 min
    1 Oz summit at 10
    1 Oz amarillo 5 minute
    1 Oz cascade KO
    1 Oz summit KO
    1 Oz amarillo KO

    Dry hop
.5 Oz of each for 4 days.

That recipe sounds interesting. So magnum from first minute? Casscade 20 min from flameout, summit at 10 from flameout and amarillo 5 min from flameout?
    (KO means flameout correct?)

KO means, Knock Out, so less, flame out, or 0 min.

Magnum is a good hop to bitter with, clean, crisp and offers nothing else when used at 60min, IMO.

If you want to use your hops, do so, but if you add Citra to the mix, forget tasting much else. I like Citra, but it's one hop that seems to peek out and be an attention hog in a beer.

Citra and Cascade would be delicious together. Magnum to bitter, and perhaps the Summit you have, you can toss in late in the boil, and dry hop with some Cascade.

First Wort means the hops are already in the kettle as the wort runs into it from the mash/lauter tun. So it's well before the boil, not in the first minute of the boil.

Perfect! just one more question, the hop combination that langdonk gave me. Is that for a 6 gallon batch?

I have no idea. Looks like it would be, but I doubt he's got calculated IBU's and such from it when he posted it. Depends on what you are looking for.

Yeah for 5.5 gallons. First wort hops are good for a nice clean bitterness. I like that technique

And I like the flame out additions for full flavor and aroma.
