That is great info, thanks! I have been toying with doing a CTZ heavy pale/IPA at some point, but I may pair it with a little Simcoe and more hefty malt backbone like you did with the additions of Munich. Sounds like a great beer!

Agree, every single NE IPA I do basically has CTZ in it. I just can't get away from the stuff!

I recently did a combo of cascade, amarillo, azzaca and mandarina. It was excellent. I did an ounce each as a 20min boil. Then did an ounce each in the fermentor with Imperial Juice yeast stain. I dry hopped for 4 days with Citra to round it all out. We really enjoyed it. I mention it because I might repeat it dropping the cascade for citra and see how it comes out. Although I liked the cascade in there because it was something familiar on the palate.

After reading some reviews on that beer, CTZ with some simcoe sounds like fun... I don’t mind some dank as long as it’s not all there is, so really anything fruity with CTZ might be good

CTZ + Simcoe + Amarillo would make a good west coast IPA

Other Half had a dual hop beer with citra and Azacca that was awesome

Best/most versatile combo would be Citra + Amarillo + simcoe, can do west coast or NEIPA with that

Maybe try Azacca + Amarillo + Mandarina?

Sounds like a lot of blending or single hop IPAs.

Citra, Ekuanot and Simcoe. Those are your heavy hitters.

    Blend and experiment dude!

    I’m sittin’ on
    Citra
    Strata
    Amarillo
    Nelson
    Galaxy
    Blend of classic C hops
    & Czech Saaz

Lotta hoppy beers this spring and summer!

Just did a Citra/Medusa NEIPA. Not quite ready to keg but from the sample I had when taking a reading its gonna be really tasty.

Yeah, I realize plenty of these could be single hop beers, Sloop Brewing near me makes a single hop Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra, that are great and I love Azacca from Founders... I just don’t have that kind of patience to use only 1 hop at a time haha... I know I should at some point though, to learn what they each bring to the table

I did a single hop Parti-gyle Amber with Belma (runoff from an imperial amber that I was barrel aging) and it came out with huge berry flavors. I got strawberry but others were getting Raspberry from it. Did a smash and the flavors were more muted so maybe you just need to use more.

I've also used Belma with Citra and Mosaic in my Milkshake IPA and it works quite well together but that could just be the Citra overpowering the Belma anyway.

I don't do many IPAs so I would trust the advice everyone has given here and just add that I love Citra so anything with that is a good start!

Nugget-Chinook... although we just used Bravo at flame-out at Sapwood for a batch of DIPA. We're still honing in on our favorite kettle hops, Idaho 7 seems pretty nice for a fruity base.

I'm fond of Azacca-Citra for dry hopping.

Drinking my "redemption" ale, with Citra, Azacca and Simcoe. Very tasty combiantion. I used 50 g each at 2 min boil and 50g each dry hop after 4 days for a 21 l batch. I used 1 oz Warrior for a bittering at 60 min, but any good bittering hop could do that job I guess.

Michael, what ratio do you use here? More Azacca than Citra?

    Cheers!

Citra goes well with everything, and mandarina Bavaria is garbage for an IPA. cascade has more pronounced flavors.

Where do you think Mandarina is better served? I’ve had 2 or 3 IPAs with it and absolutely loved them, but I’m not opposed to using it elsewhere.

I used 3 oz as a dryhop addition with an Amarillo whirlpool and got nothing from it really. I was thinking of using it for an American wheat beer.

Had a commercial Saison brewed with Blood Orange and thought the Mandarina hop used with it made that beer really shine.

I've been on a kick lately of using Citra as sort of a base hop (analogous to how we think of base malts) and adding/combining other hops with it. It seems to be working out great so far. I have a list of a few more hops I want to try with Citra, but so far Amarillo, Simcoe, Galaxy, all the C hops have worked very nicely with Citra as the 'base'.

Does anyone else use a concept like this?

I think Belma is a very good bittering hop. And an excellent finishing hop for Belgian style beers. The rest of your hops has endless possibilities. Good luck!

I am uncertain we are using the same "concept" but as I stated in post #7:

"I have brewed with Citra quite a bit and every combination I used with Citra has turned out well. Just be careful in that Citra can be a very powerful hop."

In summary, so far I have not found a hop variety that 'clashes' with Citra.

    Cheers!
