Hop Notch is one of my fave shelf IPA's. Uinta doesn't print a "bottled/canned on" but rather a "best before" date. Anyone know how far out Uinta considers a best before date? Last six pack I got was best before 11/9/13 - interested in guessing when that was canned.

I think they do 5 months out, so sometime in early June, could be 4 months though not sure. I know its not more than 6. Its pretty fresh though, we just got the same batch in this week in a bunch of stores in my area.

Rule of thumb for most "best by" dates is 6 months. It does vary from brewery to brewery though.

One month is a little hard. I am not criticising your preferences only making a practical observation. For an ipa, 90 days. MAX.

On my to-do list for breweries that have a best by or best before list. Let me know when you find out, i'll add the info to FBO.

I can think of many more US breweries using "5 months" (Boston Beer, Victory, Sly Fox, Sierra Nevada), "4 months/110/120 days" (A-B, MillerCoors) or "90 days" (many Stone beers, Ithaca Flower Power) than ones using six months. And many Euro imports are typically 1 year.

Unfortunately, there really is no "rule of thumb" when it comes to brewery suggested shelf life period.
