Starting to see Bell's Hop Slam again recently in Philly. Any idea why? Isn't this a once a year relase? Just wondering what the story is. Or should I not worry about why it is back again and just drink it.
Sounds like someone was either: (a) Hiding a few to make a buck later in the year, (b) forgot about them. All I have to say is if it is the batch that last came out, don't drink it. I kept a 6 of hopslam (after I already drank about 4-5 of my singles) in my fridge for little while (maybe a month after the release) while I was back up at school and they were all an absolute malty mess.
I thought I saw last week, online, that a couple places in the city had it on tap. Sure hope I wasn't cracking up.
I got a case of it this year and it didn't last long at all but 3 weeks from the bottling date the hops were almost nowhere to be found. I don't think I've had a beer that goes from amazing within a week to completely different beer a week and a half later.
I saw some Hop Slam listed on a menu in a bar in old city Philly about 2 weeks ago. I asked the waitress if they did in fact have it and she said yes, so I ordered a glass. Unfortunately whatever I was served did not taste like Hop Slam IMO. It was thin and sort of tasted like a crappy pale ale.
So you didn't actually see it anywhere, or am I reading that wrong? If the former is the case, my guess is it was either an outdated tap list or someone simply had a brain fart and wrote down the wrong beer when updating. But if it was actually on tap, and they were charging Hopslam prices for it, I wouldn't think twice...about not ordering it. I'm sure it would taste good, but not insane once-a-year-limited-release-pricing good.

So most of it has yet to meet human lips. In fact, up 'til now we've only stocked one or two per night. On Saturday May 31st, we'll stock every one of our remaining bottles --and pour them willy nilly, 'til they've gone on to join their predecessors. $7 a pop.
I saw it on Philly Tap Finder or Beer Menus and got excited. Then I realized what Beer is My Favorite found out, not good at this age.
$7 for a 12 ounce bottle of a four month old DIPA? Yeah...for an extra $3 I'll go pick up a six pack of fresh Two Hearted instead.
ive been seeing this at a couple places on beer menus near me too...was wondering either a) how did i not hear about a 2nd release or b) how could these assholes feel right about selling 4 month old hopslam
I'm not generally part of the "It was better last year" crowd, but I thought it tasted that way fresh this year, when the 3 years prior I've thoroughly enjoyed it.
