I havent had Hop Stoopid in a long time, but someone brought a bottle to a party I had and it was never opened, so I cracked it open tonight.

I used to really like this beer, but all I am getting now is Onion!
I have become super-sensitive to hop flavors since homebrewing and was wondering if there are a lot of Summit hops in this?

When I think of onion flavor, Deviant Dales comes to mind....not really Hop Stoopid though.

Lagunitas dates their beers but it is difficult to read.

Why can't they just do something easy to read?

In & around my location, Hop Stoopid is in virtually every grocery store & I know it sits on the shelves for a long time. My sister used to love the stuff but now refuses to drink it because she's sick of buying spoiled off tasting bottles.

You got a bad bottle. I just had one the other day and it was awesome. It made me question why I spend so much money on other IPAs.

Never got onion from Hop stoopid but I don't think I've ever enjoyed a fresh one. I tend to enjoy most beers people describe this way though.

I haven't had Hop Stoopid in a long time either, but I remember it being like drinking grapefruit juice.
They may have changed the hop bill since then.

Yes, absolutely. But it's SOOOOOO good.

I don't get it from Stoopid though. Deviant and Green Bullet, yes. But stoopid to me is just grapefruit and a little pineapple.

I wouldn't go this far, but I agree it could use more bittering hops. I like a citrusy IPA, but would prefer a more balanced hop profile.

agreed hop stoopid in the past has been more grapefruit hop tones, don't think they use chinook or oniony hops, but never know if they had a shortage or something and had to substitute.

I remember reading that Lagunitas had to delay making Sucks becasue they couldnt get all of the hops used to make it. I doubt Mr. Magee would ever "substitute" a hop variety for the sake of making more beer.

As my 7th history teacher always said, "There's no such thing as a Hop Stoopid question, just Hop Stoopid people".

It might be an old bottle.

Summit hops produce an "onion" or "garlic" aroma. I definitely got some of that in Devil Dancer. Not really something I've gotten in Hop Stoopid though.

Bummer. Can't stand when breweries don't have an expiration date.

They have a bottle date on Hop Stoopid. My problem is that I can't usually read it accurately until I've gotten it home and in front of my CSI kit with a variety of lamps, flashlights, magnifying glass, blue light, mirrors, various colored screens for background/contrast, chemical analyzers, and some "sleuthing" house music playing in the background as I uncover the clues...

...only to discover it's old.. :slight_frown:
