I stumbled apon this little project today, and wanted to see what fellow Beer Advocates thought .Personally I think this just seems like a bad idea. Notice the quote from Heavy seas marketing director, and not a brewer. Anyone else sketched out?

Quite frankly I'm surprised that no one thought of this sooner. Kinda like how people put BCBS in a French press or randall with coffee or vanilla to make variants at home. My one issue is that they are marketing it to turn "regular" beer which I would assume is a macro lager into craft by adding hops or natural flavors. I wouldn't think that macro beer has the malt profile to handle the influx of flavor.

But, I would use it to spike my maibocks and craft lagers with more hops or spare that two month old IPA in the back of the fridge from going down the drain.

If I was a shark, on Shart Tank, I would say I AM OUT. I don't see this taking off with mainstream craft people.

Definitely sketchy...though I can see its use in some scenarios. The part that's strange to me is how they've essentially taken a flavor that takes numerous days to hop, brew etc. and made it instant. This kinda seems like those little squirt bottles you drip into water to make an instant drink. The downfall to those, at least in my opinion, is they taste a bit chemically, I have a feeling this will be the same. You cannot just drop a hop into a glass of shit beer and let it sit there for a few moments and then have an IPA. So that fact that this obviously DOES work that way, makes me wonder what the chemical composition and makeup of these little pouches really is. I do think it's a little bit pretentious and you'd probably get made fun of by 90% of your peers for essentially dropping a beer teabag into your glass, but I also know I've been at numerous social occasions where I couldn't leave to make a beer run and wished I'd had a good beer. So, depending on just how good it works and tastes, MAYBE it'd be a decent idea...

Craft beer is getting gimmicky enough already without stuff like this.

Kind of a neat Idea. Im sure it will be like the Beer Concentrate that was talked about a year or two ago. Neet in theory but not that good tasting.

I use a tea stick, and have been thinking about picking up empty tea bags at the local asian grocery store here to do just this... Cool idea for those inexperienced in brewing and what works for additives like this though. But not for me.

hm not a home brewer but from what i have read this will be similar to dry hopping, or adding hops after boil, and everything I read about that states that you just get aroma from that hops at that point. I know smell and taste are linked, but I don't see how this can increase the hop profile of a beer by dropping this sachet into it, other flavors yes I can see that happening

This makes zero sense to me, if they are marketing it as a modifier to light beer (AAL) or craft. People who drink AAL drink it because that's what they like, if they wanted to drink a witbier they would go out and buy a witbier. As for craft beer, there are so many options available you can pretty much find an existing beer with many of these "proposed" flavors present already that there wouldn't be a need for a satchel. I don't get it.

I guarantee the commercial will have a dude with glasses and a big beard adding it to their beer and then smelling it and holding it up to the light

Perfect for weddings when all you're stuck with is Miller Lite and you're too stuck up to drink it!

Gives me an idea though. I really REALLY loved that Stone green tea IPA, and seeing how it was a one time deal, perhaps I grab a DIPA, some cold brewing green tea bags, little bit of magic and whammo! Green Tea IPA (DIPA)!!!!!!

I'm indifferent about the idea itself. I'd try it. But it's a major pet peeve of mine when someone takes the time to create something as critical as a business proposal to prospective investors and doesn't take the extra step of having a trained eye proofread it.

Someone mentioned that they thought this was similar to a Randall and had no issues with it. I dont see it that way. This is basically for people who don't like the way the beer tastes, so they think adding stuff to it makes it drinkable, which imo is stupid.

I would never drink a beer from a randall that i didnt enjoy in the first place. Normally when we use a randall, we are taking beers we already love and putting a twist on them. I would never put a Macro through a randall to make it drinkable.

My question is what is the kickstarter money for? Distribution? You could by a whole bunch of tea infusers and hops for a few hundred bucks. Oi!

    Anyway...NO

Edit: mostly because I would just get beer that I already expect to like without adding stuff. It's one thing to throw a hop in an IPA if you have a plant or some in the fridge, but this is just plain unnecessary.
