Hoppy Black Beers...

    Hoppin Frog Hop Heathen is perhaps my favorite Black IPA (at least of those currently available, New Glarus Black Top is my all time fav but sadly they haven't brewed it in a while).

    I meant that it was kind of a ringer, the rye makes it spicy so it adds a totally different flavor compared to just dark malts or a stout base.

    Rougarou from Tin Roof in Louisiana is definitely one to try. Very reminscent of Dark Penance to me, which is great as well.

    Yes, it is when fresh. Great Divide Yeti is also pretty hoppy when fresh for an imperial stout.

    Uinta Dubhe is a good strong hoppy black ale, so is Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet, Founders Dark Penance.

    With the OP being New York, Schmaltz Death of a Contract Brewer is another good suggestion.

    This style of beer is vastly underrated.

    MadTree is releasing their Identity Crisis which they describe as a Hoppy Porter in cans later this week. It's one of my favorite beers.

    I had one by Kuhnhenn called WIPA with Citra Hops. Hands down, best black IPA I've ever had. Great citrus flavors and aroma. If your eyes were closed you would never have guessed it was a black beer.

    Fresh Maine Beer Company's Weez is pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of the "Style" but that one was quite nice. Oh and Founders Dark Penance was Legit too.
