Darn near my favorite style. Sublimely was, well, sublime, recently had the Stone Enjoy By Black and thoroughly adored it. Way too many great ones to list but for starters, Epitome, Wookey Jack, Yakima Glory, Blakkr, Hoppy Feet and Great Dismal all rank pretty high for me. The rare few that were swing and misses for me were Back in Black (yet to have anything I enjoyed from 21st Amendment) and Black Perle.

I've stuck with Cascadian Ale since it was the first name I was ever given for the style, plus it takes the whole "pale" thing out of the equation since it's a black ale....Black IPA not really accurate and all.

The taste of hops in my stouts? No thank you, sir.

Cascadian Dark Ales? Pretty damn good.

Boneyard's Armored Fist and Gigantic's Slip into Darkness are two that I've tried that I liked and have had multiple times.

I had Reuben's Imperial Black IPA recently: huge hop aroma, taste was bright hops with an undercurrent of roast fitting in perfectly, highly recommended. Some think the ideal is an IPA you wouldn't know was a dark beer if you had your eyes closed, but I want a little roast behind the hop dominance. Not a hoppy stout, not simply a different color IPA, but a beer that justifies its own style.

It has been mentioned before, but I can't say enough good things about Gigantic's Slip Into Darkness.

I second this. And it's super easy to get in NY.

I also really like Smuttynose Durty, which is labeled as a "hoppy brown ale" but tastes very similar to many of the black IPAs I've tried.

I also agree that I prefer hopped-up stouts to most "Black IPAs" when I'm looking for the flavor of roasted malt + heavy hop dosing. In addition to the ones mentioned above, Avery Out Of Bounds Stout is a real winner.

(haven't really been wowed by a black IPA yet, though Wookie...comes awfully close).

There are many great CDAs in the NW chaos, armored fist, slip into darkness are great but I think my favorite one is 4&20 by culmination brewing I think it has the perfect balance between hops and malt.

A bunch of people already mentioned Stone Enjoy by Black, but I'll go ahead and echo them.

I actually am theoretically not a fan of the style. Never really sought it out because I'm not a big dark beer drinker. So, yesterday I'm at a bar and it says they have Enjoy By on the board. I'm like, "sweet" and order it. If I looked closer at the board I'd have noticed the 'Black' written right there, but I guess people just see what they want to see.

When she was pouring it I was like, "damn" but I didn't want make a fuss so I gave it a shot and.... wow, it was great. Missing all the heaviness of a porter or stout, with good flavor of hops and dark malts combined excellently. Nice level of carbonation that I'd say is above the range in typical dark styles, but more in line with my preference.

I wouldn't have tried it if I knew what I was doing, but I'm glad I didn't [know what I was doing]. Its really good!
