Never thought it would be going into my first taste of one, but easily one of my favorite styles. My two cents on some tasty examples would be (no particular order):
    -Boneyard Armored Fist
    -Uinta Dubhe
    -Pelican Bad Santa CDA
    -Deschutes Hop in the Dark
    -pFriem CDA
    -Oakshire O'Dark:30 CDA
    -Lagunitas NightTime
    -Hopworks (HUB) Secession Black IPA
    -Laughing Dog Dogzilla
    -Bear Republic Black Racer
*Special shout-out and RIP to Stone SSRA as well - super tasty and one of the best. Cheers!

Stone Americano Stout is pretty hoppy for an imperial stout (65 IBUs). A shade under Class V Stout (75 IBUs), though nowhere near Sublimely Self-Righteous (90). Might be up your alley

A fresh Wookey Jack is as good a beer as you will drink, regardless of style. Of course you will never actually find a fresh one, but I digress..

Revolution Jukebox Hero. Especially since they went to six pack format and not bomber.

Secession Black IPA by Hopworks (Portland, OR) To me, this is the pinnacle of the style.

Just tonight I had probably the best hoppy black beer to date. Local brewery called Mad Science in Frederick, MD. Name of the beer is Black Death. At 8.4% its really well made. If you live locally and like big dark beers with some hops to it, this one is well made.

I do tend to enjoy black IPAs or Cascadian Black ales, but not real excited about hoppy stouts. Just had Fat Head Shakedown American Stout, which to me was a bit lacking for what I like in a stout and imo drank more like a black IPA. So since I like black IPAs, I guess I should like this one, but maybe because I can't seem to get around the fact that it's classified as a stout, I didn't care for it. It's a cold day here today and I was hoping for a big bold robust stout, and for what ever reason Shakedown wasn't what I was after today, maybe I need to give it another try without the expectations. Three Floyds Blot out the Sun was very similar for me.

Just had the Enjoy By 02.14.16 Black IPA. Not my fav style but this was pretty good. Pretty wide distribution, so it should be in New York by now.

Founders Dark Penance and 21st Amendment Back in Black are two others you might want to try.
