When I am having a hard time falling asleep I don't count sheep, but seem to have new recipe ideas go through my head. The only problem with this is that the ideas don't always get written down, but I don't have enough time to brew all of my ideas anyway. Who else has replaced sugar plums with brewing ingredients?

I cant even begin to tell you how many times I loose sleep over thinking about making beer! I thought I was the only one with this affliction!

HAHA! I do that same. It actually helps me fall asleep and then I never remember the ideas in the morning. I'll often do the whole recipe in my head, all the mash, etc and then imagine how the finished beer tastes. 90% of the time I am asleep before that happens, the other 10% I'm thirsty.

FYI- I have two others. Totally wierd and random..
1.) Fly-fishing- I imagine myself on a spring creek gently making casts to that rising trout. This is a good one to shut off the brain.
2.) Soccer- I'm pretty old to play but still can hang with the young-ins, so I dream of the goals I scored that week, puts me right to sleep. Ahhh the glory...

Absolutely. I have always thought that the greatest recipes, inventions, and solutions have come from those people who captured that moment of clarity. I to have had those thoughts such as "oh my god, I can this change procedure and it would solve 3 problems while simultaneously making the best beer ever". And then I wake up in the morning with little recollection of the epiphany. But it's still great that we have them isn't it?

Wow - I'm not the only one. When I first went all grain all of my dreams were anxious ones about the processes I had read/heard about - grains ruled my evenings for about a month.

They were as pervasive as Tetris shapes for me when I was a kid (where everything I saw reminded me of a Tetris block.)

The opposite for me. When I start thinking about recipes or brewing, I'm up for awhile. I have to force myself to not think about it to fall asleep.

<== Any and all charges related to sheep were dropped years ago.

The Judge was somehow convinced 1) the pictures in evidence were clearly Photoshopped and 2) I really was just helping that one sheep through the fence. ^:grimacing:^
