Put in a couple Centennials last summer. They got planted a little late for the SC climate, but they sprouted and ran a few feet. No bins, though. I trimmed them back and mulched them heavily over the winter. They sprouted a couple of months ago and have run about 5 feet or so. They look pretty healthy excepting a few chewed leaves by some type of critters. I don't spot any bins yet, but I'm a rookie having never grown hops before, or even used or seen fresh hops. I do hope to get enough Centennial this year to use for flavoring in a a batch or two. I planted them at the edge of my garden, and I'm beginning to think that was a mistake. They are running underground roots, or whatever, that are surfacing among my cukes and tomatoes that are 6 or 8 feet away. I might consider digging them up come fall and moving them to pots and putting them at the base of a couple of tall trees that are at the edge of the property and get good sun. My thought is to run a rope trellis of some type up the tree.

Looking good man .. I have my rope up now close to 15ft. I am hoping they make it through this intense heat.

Three of my four varieties are doing well here in Keller but the grasshoppers are starting to really take a bite out of the bines.

Well looks like I have to wait until next year ... The cascade vine I had going hasn't died but stalled. It was a long shot since I did not get them planted until June. Next year the vines will start growing in march or April and will be stronger and more developed by the time the Texas heat arrives. Glad to see someone has some nice results but I'm out of the game this year.

Sheez, that was fast. I have a bunch of binges going, and it looks like it's just beginning to sprout the flowers that be one the hop cones. Second year with Newport hops, I have 5 rhizomes going. I may pull a couple out next year and go with some more flavorful/ aromatic varieties.
