Some people think Cucumbers taste better as pickles! There is room in my belly for all of them!

Love January in PA! (Did I just say that?)
Clerk claimed that they (at Shangy's) would sellout before the end of the weekend for sure FYI.

And this is why I don't even bother looking for bottles. Though some of those bars get cases along with thier kegs...

Meanwhile 1/10th or less of that amount will make its way to Philly. This really aggravazes me.

Price per bottle was much higher than I thought it would have been. 5.50 at a local bottle shop.

I open up cases all the time to look at bottle dates. No issues at most places. I got burned by a Founders mix case saying "packed on " I thought it was really fresh and when I got home there was some pretty old pale ale in there. I have decided to open things now to check. Founders never responded to me so I stopped buying their beers.

I was on a list last year for Hop Slam but the distributor did not get enough for all on the list. They decided to sell it as 2 six packs per person on the list. It was $45 for two six packs. I passed. Not that good. I ended up having one bottle I split and it was really good but not that good.

    Enjoy

Last year the owner of Shangys posted a bunch about hop slam and how it was distributed etc. I remember him saying that he got what he got based on how much bells he sold all year. Makes sense. The bad part was that since he sold the most Bells he allocated a huge amount of Hop Slam to himself for his retail outfit. Thus a lot of Hop Slam does not get out of his hands. Never been there, would stop if in the area but no special trip. I have a case of Sucks waiting for me Saturday for 1/2 the price of Hop Slam.

    Enjoy

I believe the post above me is probably accurate. I made my yearly pilgrimage today after work, got in the door and was checking out with a case by 6. I was talking to the cashiers a bit, mostly making a joke saying "...so today must be your nightmare."

To which they nodded in agreement and said "Luckily it should only be today though", so I asked if that meant they were gonna sell out already, and she said "That's what I hear, we've got 40 cases left". And I imagine 40 cases wouldn't last more than an hour at the rate it was mentioned to be going at.

They supply wegman's and I spoke with them today and they aren't optimistic that they will get any based on what they've heard from the place on Lehigh Street.

So selling tons of beer is a nightmare at your job? How hard can that be to take $ or credit, say howdy and enjoy your beer. You work in retail so embrace it.

I imagine fielding hundreds of phone calls (and certainly hundreds more for the rest of the week, with more disappointing results) and dozens of customers lined up outside the door hours before opening is not something anyone, a retail working dynamo, or not would be all too happy to "embrace". I'm sure plenty of people working in retail enjoy their job, but probably aren't too keen on black friday.

That quote says to me nothing about what you say.Fielding phone calls had nothing to do with this quote. I would love to have customers lined up waiting to come in every day. The quote from the person working makes me feel that it sucks they have to work hard or even ring up more than a few customers an hour. I feel as if they would love telling customers they are sold out of Hop Slam. Do not let your customers know you hate your job, even on this one day. Remember your customers pay your salary, not your boss.

So because Shangy's (and Westy etc) are regional distributors for HopSlam as well as retail sites where it's sold...does it typically mean that OTHER "normal" PA beer distributors DON'T get cases to sell?

Shangys posted on their Facebook that Hopslam sold out last night. I got one case at least. Good luck to everyone else.

Yup, am sure glad I called before getting on the highway. Did they get less than 2013? The line must have been out the door all day!

It means they get VERY limited amounts and typically limit customers to a bottle(s) or a 6-pack if you're lucky. Good luck finding a case (if you didn't get it at Shangy's yesterday or Westy's on Monday)!
