Hopslam in NOVA (northern Virginia/ DC)

it's leaving Bells this week so probably on shelves sometime next week.

Westover will announce it on Twitter and take holds for $5. I have never had it, so this is the only reason I am chasing it down this year

I think it will be plentiful, just like last year. No need to pay a place like Westover extra $$ when they're already overcharging you.

I think there will be enough to go around. Hopefully available this Monday or the next. The trick is to buy and drink it fresh. Born on date is 1/09/15 I think.

thats awful. So if they are holding the beer for you for $5, does that mean they will charge a more reasonable price for the beer itself?

Not necessary to pay $5 to have Hopslam held. Last year there was a ton of Hopslam in the area - to the point where i was walking by cases of it in stores and not purchasing any. It seems like i am always drinking Hopslam while I watch the super bowl.

They had Hopslam and Nugget Nectar the past two years.

(By the way, their keg list says they carry kegs of BA Abraxas and Parabola, among many others. That can't be right? They have BA Abraxas and Parabola in stock?)

Yeah I don't recall it being all that difficult to get for the past couple years now, at least out in Loudoun. Last year a buddy sent me a pic of an entire mountain of Hopslam sitting at freakin Giant of all places.

 

I think that possible because I thought Bells distributes to stores special releases like Hopslam based on amount of other stuff sold. So a busy Giant unloading lots of Oberon and Two Hearted over a year may actually get a large number of cases of Hopslam

 

As long as you don't go to the more popular beer stores who post on FB/twitter (Norms and WF Fair Lakes, for example), it should be very easy to get. However, if you follow these places it will gve you a good idea when to head over to your store of choice.

Also, in past years we (NoVA) have gotten 2 shipments, different bottling dates, maybe 2-3 weeks apart. I imagine it will be the same this year.

Arrowine just sent out the newsletter today said Hype Slam and Nugget Nectar are expected in early February

 

Haven't seen in in southern VA yet either. Word I got last night was first week of February.

 

I've popped in there once before... ...saw six packs of hopslam, but in the $double-digits, (as well as founders backwoods for ~$7/8 per bottle) ..... the thing was... the hopslam was from jan2014, and it was mid-november2014. if anything, just proceed with caution (dates and price); but if all is good, hell yea -- more power to these guys, and we all win!
