This got me thinking. Not sure what the other stores are like, but the Albertville one has no real shelf space left. Another reason they store it in back could simply just be that, limited shelf space. No point re-arranging shelves just to fit a beer that will not be around log. There are plenty of other smaller stores that do the same thing with limited beer. So it could come down more to logistics than them being "crap."

While they aren't the best store out there, I think they are doing a great job servicing their areas (mostly smaller towns and out of the cities) with a solid craft beer selection.

Hmm, never been to the Albertville store, so I can't comment, but I agree w/ what you said about doing a pretty good job w/ craft selections for us folks in the small town markets.

So, just to get this straight in my head.. they keep the beer in the back so that you have to ask for it but you're certain that they don't keep the beer in the back? Do you think they go in back to their magic beer hot tub (a refurbished hot tub time machine, no doubt) and grab the beer you're looking for from the murky waters?

Jokes aside, it seems clear that if they consistently have the beer you are looking for in back when you ask then they must be keeping a fairly significant stash in back. Either that or you consistently get lucky and snag the last sixer they have tucked away.

I personally would rather buy my beer off the shelf. I don't enjoy going in somewhere and having to flag down an employee and tell them what I'm looking for before they respond with a blank stare. "Surly what? Abrasive? Do you mean Furious? We have Furious in the cooler. That's the hoppy one I think."

The Waite Park location by crossroads mall.
They hold particular special releases from the shelf, it is known.
All other locations local to me are great.

One ancedote: A few years ago I was told they don't put Breakfast Stout on the shelf because a few certain people would buy out the shelf as soon as it was in...

God it was $16.99 at whole foods downtown. No thank you. They did have Space Ghost for $6.99, however.

$15.99 is the MSRP, I don't think $1 is egregious for a store downtown, thats roughly what $.17 per beer? But yes I agree, overpriced for the beer, but not the stores fault

Oh totally fair. That was poor wording and I didn't mean to imply whole foods was out of line. I just don't want to pay it

$16 a six pack for a truly serious IIPA is not bad pricing. How many of us think nothing of $10 for a bomber of Dreadnaught? Pricing of Hopslam is significantly better than that.

Also, I'm coming to realize Hopslam is an acquired taste. For two years after moving to the Midwest, I pooh-poohed it, thati is, until I had it on tap, cellar-aged, and from a six pack seven or eight times. I now see what all the fuss is about.

@martyl1000 , true, a $6 bomber of hopslam isn't a bad deal at all. I just don't think I want 72oz of HopSlam for $17 this is almost a beer Id rather have 1 time in a bomber for $7.

Im currently drinking HopSlam after a Harness The Winter and I prefer the $10 6pk, but hey , thats just my opinion man [IMG]

You must be the same fella that gets lost & drives around for hours because you refuse to ask for directions....You see, I got jokes too, hee hee!!

Jokes aside, I'm not sure if it's a time machine, like you described or if I just get lucky w/ those "last 6 packs", but I have always been provided w/ great service by the people at these stores.

Also, my condolences to you for shopping at store(s) where you only get blank & confused stares from the staff, (sounds frustrating). Maybe you should find a shop w/ more informed employees. That is why I speak w/ the "beer folks" & not the store's sommelier when looking for beer. I hope your beer shopping experiences improve, good luck!!

Those two brews are so unique. Both so very awesome. I can't think of anything that tastes like either of them.

Is Hopslam even an IPA? Why is it considered one?
