It's time for hot dogs with yellow mustard and relish, corn on the cob, and potato salad... Thinking an Anchor Steam or an American pre-Prohibition style lager would go awesome with it all. But maybe there is a more unconventional beer choice that you can suggest that would be awesome? Maybe a Flanders red ale or an American farmhouse ale... Any ideas from the beer gurus?

Gotta go German... Konig Pils would be my choice. Cut the fat and spices and refreshes the palate.

Those would work. Or a Pilsner, either german or bohemian.

For straight up traditional kicking back, I go with Lagunitas Pils (pretty safe when hosting.) For a nice summer kick, I'll add some Abita Strawberry Harvest. When I'm throwing a couple of dogs on for myself, I love some Green Flash Palate Wrecker and a mellow brown mustard (anything too "horseradishy" and the taste buds tend to burn.)

Hot dogs have become a platform for toppings and sauces of infinite limit. More and more theses days you pair the toppings more then the sausage itself. I had a tempura fried dog topped with kimchi and paired with a dales pale that knocked my fing socks off last year.

I prefer a good smoky German style dog myself, with grainy horseradish mustard. Best accompaniment is undoubtedly Schlenkerla Helles. Put some bacon in that potato salad and I bet it'd even accompany the op's menu quite well indeed.

After reading this thread, I just had to have a hotdog (plain with yellow mustard, microwave cooked) with a beer (SN Summerfest). I thought the hops helped to enhance the spiciness of the mustard, and the overall flavor of the beer complimented the meat itself well. Perhaps more hoppier, yet still light bodied pils like Sixpoint the Crisp would go well with a 'dog made with brown mustard?
