Just curious, is the description on its BA page a complete account of how Dave was made?
If so, couldn't someone easily hoard a bunch of Adam and freeze-distill it into a pretty accurate Dave "clone"? Someone mentioned oak, too, so if you throw the distilled Adam into a barrel you're home free, right? I'm just thinking out loud here

CAN'T STOP POSTING IF I DO I DIE.

Also, I've tried to find birth-year bottles for myself and my girlfriend and had no luck. These things don't grow on trees!

Might be a bit more involved than that....

I've always wondered this. What the hell kind of bottle is that? Its always looked like a bottle of fancy salad dressing to me. Is it corked?

    edit: nevermind

According to a HotD employee that I spoke with the other day, the strange bottles were because they were initially going to be taster bottles for the beer festival it was brewed for back whenever it was bottled. Not sure how true that is or if I did not remember her explanation correct (was quite a few Matt and Adam ftw in when I brought it up), but take it for what its worth.

Damn, I need an AE chart so I know who to avoid. Would have save wasted negotiation time.

Got a friend who saw one in someone's cellar recently. So no. But can't be too far off.

I could honestly see this being one of the biggest disappointments in the beer world if you got a chance to try it.

That thread was a disaster. It was one guy trying to negotiate side deals with different people interested then saying he wanted more and changed his mind, etc, etc.

Something just occurred to me. The link above says it was brewed for the '98 Toronado Barleywine festival, that means it's nearly 14 years old. And it was put into those bottles then? So it's been in a soy sauce bottle for 14 years? I'm definitely going back to my "no way that's good" stance, unless something in there is wrong.

the 'gots' are flawed #s, as they're voluntary and many people who cellar beer aren't on BA. Dave is out there.

The question is not whether there are any Daves left, but if and when another will be opened.

I'm honestly not sure I could open one if I had it. It would be like putting Honus Wagner in the spokes of your bike.

If I had a Dave, I'd drink it all myself. Preferably in a brisk, boot-like fashion.
