Was at bottleworks yesterday, and noticed the beer was available over in the rare/limited/reserve coldbox. Price was $23.99. There was also some 08 stille nacht bottles as well ($12.99 I think?), and then they also had the 2012 Gouden Carolus Noel on tap as well (absolutely delicious!). Defintely a good time to stop by Bottleworks.
Firestone Walker 15 also on the shelves ... and aged bottles of Mephistopheles. Not sure why that doesn't get love; to me, Mephistopheles has more nuance than BT if you're looking for a 16%+ alchohol stout.
I picked up one of these along with a batch 35 Fred in December. I still have the 36 but I had the 35 and I thought it was waaaaay over the hill. All flavors were muted. With batch variation there's still a chance this one could be pretty good but I have my doubts. If it is good let me know so I have something to look forward to.
Had a chance to try the 36....can confirm it's quite delicious. Plenty of flavor, though nothing over the top...would love to have a couple snifters full left for an upscale 'beer' nightcap.
I've had a couple batches in the 30s recently and none have been "over the hill". As usual, storage conditions undoubtedly make a big difference; we're talking about beers that are 12-14 years old.
Ditto. The beer has aged/mellowed very nicely. Not sure I'd want to drink it all the time, but I agree with Brendan on this... the 36 would make a lovely nightcap beer on a cold winter's evening.
I was lucky enough to snag a few batch 3 (1998) Freds from Bevridge place a few months ago and they blew the batch 90 out of the water...
Love the 35. Not sure I'd shell out that much for36 but thanks for mentioning it. If only I could score more 2012 bourbon Fred.
