I have no idea how easy/difficult it is to obtain a HotD Matt, but I've got a coworker who enjoys craft beer and I just turned him onto BA. He came to me with the US Top 100 list and noticed there is a beer called "Matt". He was all excited and said he has a son named Matt and he'd like to get him a bottle as a gift for Christmas.

I'm just wondering, how easy or difficult is this to obtain?

Hasn't been released since November 2010 (and no hints of a future release until *MAYBE* next year), so the supply might be dwindling at this point. It'll likely take something limited, IMO.

I want one of these really, really bad. Well, actually, I want a case really bad, so I'll just have to wait until the next release!

I'd imagine you could get it with KH, BCBVS, BA Hi Fi, or Black Note (probably 2 of them with any of those). I would guess none of your other gots (besides Rare) would do it, but I could be wrong. I would say BA Hi Fi is probably the closest in comparison to trade-ability. The others are probably a tad overkill.

I think you might be off a bit here. Matt is a very tough trade. KH and BCBVS are probably the right ballpark for 1 bottle IMO, but even then I wouldn't consider it easily done. Bottle count is still way in Matt's favor vs those, plus it's an older beer, and really highly rated. (for whatever that is worth these days)

Either way, it's not a beer that trades much at all lately, so it's hard to say exactly what will do it.

I personally would say cbeer88 is dead-on or even a touch shy. With Matt, folks need to remember the bottle limits were very low at HotD, but I have no reference for Bottleworks; combine that with the possibility that most folks who ended up with their share likely drank a significant portion, cellared a couple, and sent the rest off to regular trading partners.

    Just my $.02.

Earlier this year Alan said in a tweet that it would be released in fall. As you probably know it wasn't released last weekend. My guess is that it wasnt ready and will be released in the spring. Of course it is possible that something went wrong with the Matt and they have to start over or we'll be getting a sour version of Matt in the spring. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

I spent the weekend in Portland and arranged some IP trades. I was able to find some AftW, but had zero luck finding Matt outside of on-site consumption only at the brewpub. I think it's a really tough find at this point.

As part of a larger trade this spring, I traded a Czar Jack (before infection issues came to light) plus some other things for the 2010 version plus some other things. Outstanding beer, and I'm very happy to hear it's being brewed again.

I have several friends named Matt. Not sure if that helps.

Make a trip to HotD in Portland and consume a bottle there. I think it was... 18 dollars or so.

If you just want one, that's easy. Step 1: come over to my house. Step 2: ask to open a Matt. Can't help you with a case, though

A buddy who just moved to TX from Portland gave me a bottle of this beer earlier this year because my name is Matt. I didn't know it was all that rare until I saw this thread today. Now I think it's gonna taste a lot better when I drink it.:stuck_out_tongue:
