    Hey all,

I am going to be in Madison for the big 10 wrestling tournament march 7-9. I am looking for a hotel within walking distance to bars. The event is at Kohl Center but hotels in that area downtown are pretty booked up. Looking for recommendations on another area with hotels and bars within walking distance.

    Thanks!

Also could be interested in some IP trades during that weekend!

The Blue Moon is next to the Best Western Inntowner

I would be down for some trading too if you want to set something up.

I'd go for the Hyatt Place - walking distance to the Kohl, State Street, the Square and a nice selection of food and drink, plus it's a nice facility.

edit: I see they're booked, but all 3 Hilton properties have rooms and are within easy walking of the Kohl.

Double Tree on Johnson is not too far from the Kohl Center and is a pretty central location for all things downtown. Not sure what their rates are but might be decent compared to some other hotels.

The Hotel Red on Monroe Street is walking distance to Brasserie V and Jacs which both have very good tap lists.

Have done this a few times, and it works out very well. Hotel Red is a very nice hotel.

I second the Hyatt Place and Double Tree. Hotel Red also has a free shuttle, so distance to The Kohl Center/State Street is not a problem.

What hasn't been mentioned is The Concourse, which is up on Capitol Square (plenty of great food/bars here, I'd recommend The Cooper's Tavern and The Old Fashioned).

I second finding something around the Capital square if it's available and not overly pricy. Walking distance to the Kohl Center, State Street and multiple nice bars around the Capital (The Old Fashioned as mentioned above, Tipsy Cow, The Great Dane Brew Pub, etc). There's also a Best Western on the square that I think is usually fairly reasonable.

And if you're willing to drive a little, there's some awesome beer bars not too far away (but would be quite the hike) with good food and great tap lists too.

Due to price and availability, we were kind of looking for a place further away from the kohl but walking distance to bars. There are 10 of us total and we are on a tight budget... Driving to the kohl for the tourney would be easier than driving to hotel from bars if that makes sense.

Will look at all these option though and appreciate the help!

This right here. He always makes sure the Blue Moon has fantastic taps; the food is also delicious. Down side is that it is not within walking distance to the KC.

I'd second this. Should be lower cost, great bar (drink AND food) right there.

Maybe I'm still thinking like I did when I was a college student and lived near Blue Moon but the Kohl Center is totally walkable. I did that walk plenty back then.

It's less than a two-mile walk per google maps. Easily walkable in weather like today. Not so much if it's brutally cold...which it SHOULDN'T be in March.

Bringing this thread back up. I ended up finding a deal downtown right by the Kohl! If anyone is out that way 3/7-3/8 let me know, we can get a beer! Also looking for IP trades. If anyone is looking for anything available in Ohio or that I might have let me know and I can bring it. Thanks!
