Haven't seen any threads on it. Just happened to walk to my bus stop in front of city hall this afternnon and saw the canopies and stages going up. it is scheduled for June 13-14. Anyone on here going? Anyone familiar with the promoters and past events they've put on?
One of the worst events in Houston. I have read that they at least don't run out of water anymore, and did not outsell its venue by about 8000 tickets last time around. There have also been issues with vendors/workers/bands not getting payed. This thing is a joke on more than one level. There are macro tents with long lines, and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale poured from a bottle. The quicker this thing dies the better, but it sells out every year http://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/is-the-houston-beerfest-worth-it.183730/#post-2474182 http://www.houstonpress.com/news/up...eer-fests-organizers-owe-them-100-000-6736327
I have some faith in the new management (from an event execution persepective) since I've personally worked with them before, but as @champ103 mentioned, I wouldn't expect a great lineup of beers. It will be better than years past (bar has been set low), but nothing you can't get anywhere in the city. I also don't know why people continue to support it considering its track record.
My fiancé is going with a few friends, because she says it's an excuse to get out and have fun. I agree with you guys though. 45 minute wait for bathroom and beer I can get anywhere isn't fun. To each their own I guess.
You're right. I'm sure it will be a good event for those that want to go see live music and enjoy whatever beer. I just don't really think the event will appeal to most of the hardcore beer geeks on this site. But in general I've just been very surprised how popular it remains after all the bad publicity and trouble it's had.
