So last night (April 13th) was the High Fidelity Brewing Co. event at the Brewery Incubator. Was anybody else there? (Completely confused? Never heard of the Brewery Incubator? Cliiiiiick.) Hi-Fi had 6 of their beers on tap: - Ginger Kid (a ginger-citrus Belgian wheat) - Imperial Belgian Black IPA - Hop Scotch (a hoppy pale Scotch ale) - London ESB - Conspirator (doppelbock, of course) - Gose (two different versions, actually, in collaboration with Spiller Artisan Ales, another BI member) Of the six I was impressed with several. Hop Scotch was probably my favorite - an odd concept that was much better than I guessed it would be. The more sour version of the gose was excellent and would be lovely to have around during the summer. The Belgian black IPA wasn't very Belgian-y - the hops kinda took over - but was still pretty good. And the ESB and doppelbock were both pretty solid. Ginger Kid needs some tweaking, I think, but it could be okay. This was a pre-sale ticketed event - $25, including a Hi-Fi glass, as much beer as you can drink, and some very good food (chicken & waffles with "beerup" [beer syrup]; pulled pork sandwiches & tacos; some very tasty pretzel bites; and [Spiller Ales] coconut milk stout mini cupcakes). There are several more events scheduled soon at the Incubator. The future events won't require the pre-sale tickets - I'm guessing this one was due to delays in permitting. - April 27th: Warlocks Games and Beer - beers and gaming, apparently. - May 5th, 11am: "Drinko de Mayo" - house beers, food in collaboration with Adela's Mexican Kitchen, a pinata, horchata milk stout shakes, and a "Cafe de Olla Porter". - May 18th: Spiller Artisan Ales event - Belgian style beers, cheese pairings, & other foods. They've got a nice little space at 907 Franklin (north downtown - the former Cafe Luz), and the food & service were excellent. I was very pleased with this event and will definitely be going back for more. It's a fun concept, and even if these new beers aren't completely polished yet, it'll be a nice way to evaluate some of the upstart Houston brewers.
I need to check one of these out someday. The only time I have been to that location was when Scott from Freetail had a tasting there (when they were trying to decide if they wanted to expand). I think it was called Kitchen Incubator. John at Premium Draught is always pushing these events. Eventually, Ill give it a go. Edit, DO'H, you already mentioned what it used to be called...Cafe Luz
Well, it's the same space as Kitchen Incubator, which is still technically there. They've just expanded to brewing. And it was Cafe Luz, but the cafe was "closed" last year to make way for the incubator(s). So we're both correct!
