Houston Regular Tasting April 15th

    I am posting this a little early to get the word out. Our regular tasting will be pushed back a week because of Easter, and there is a change of venue.

    Sunday, April 15th at 12:00
    at the Hey Merchant (not the Gingerman this month)
    Bring something the bar does not have, buy something from the bar, and tip well.

    This is our first time having the tasting here so be respectful and take care of the bartenders. We will be on the porch if the weather is nice. Hopefully my work schedule cooperates, if not have a fun time. And a big thanks in advance to the Hey Merchant.

    I will be bringing back some Singaporean brews this weekend so will see about making it on the 15th. (Some people started to bottle the since the last time I was here.) I'm also following up on a lead and will see about picking up some Hitachino Nest 3 days if it is still available. :grinning:

    Also, forgot to mention. This will be a Belgian tasting. Triples, Dubbles, Quads, Lambics, Saisons (if you did not get enough at the funk tasting), Wits, etc. Anything from Belgium or style. Of coarse other styles are welcome if you have something else you want to share and want to vary it up.

    DOH. Getting my months mixed up. We talked about doing a Belgian tasting for May. Someone stop me from making more mistakes:flushed:. NO THEME for this month :grinning:.

    First time possibly coming out... are there "set rules". And what if I can't bring something that the bar doesn't already have?? Hay Merchant has a great list of beers...

    No rules that I've found other than what is stated. Bring something interesting, rare, unique, hard to get, or something you really like, whatever. (Rare does not necessarily equal a whale of any color. For instance the Singapore beers I mention above are pretty rare in that they are very limited distribution, but they are by no mean a lusted after beer.)

    And the Hay Merchant has a lot, but no bar comes close to having everything.

    Speaking of Singapore beers, I ran across this on one of their FB pages from late last week: "
    Last of the freeze-distilled IPA, English Ale, Wheat and the Belgian Ale." If that freeze-distilled IPA was bottled and they still have some left it will be making an appearance.​

    Drat! After missing the last few tastings, I might not be able to make this one as well since I will be working that Sunday. I can try to get out of work early and head there right after work, but I would only get there near the end of the day. :-(

    Parents in town for the weekend, so won't be making this one. Though, if anyone would still like to do one on this Sunday, I'd be down!

    A weekend bump. I will not be able to make it :slight_frown: my work schedule is even more screwed up than usuall. I hope everyone has a fun time and respects Hay Merchant (see, I can spell:wink:)

    Noon? Really? I'm not going to make it that early, but if folks are around for a couple hours, I've got a nice sour version of Recalcitrant Dockhand from Black Star in a growler. Have to see how early I can get back to town, though...
