My brother lives out in Houston, Texas but does not drink alot of craft beer. I almost solely drink IPA's/ Pales/Rye IPA's and have been trying to find out what he could bring back here in Indiana but haven't had any luck researching solid breweries in Texas with great IPA's. Anyone know of any good breweries in Texas that have a good IPA's that I could have him pick me up?
Yellow Rose is pretty easy to find at the big name stores. If he can make it to the brewery, Brash makes really good IPAs but they are only available in crowlers at the brewery.
He lives east of Houston in Seabrook, I called the Specs out there and they carry Art Car IPA from Saint Arnold I am going to have him grab some of that for sure. They didn't carry Lone Pint at that location...
Art car is pretty solid too but freshness can be an issue sometimes. the closer you get to the city the easier it is to find yellow rose.
They said that you can place an order for the Endeavor which sounds pretty awesome and has good reviews
St Arnold Art Car St Arnold Endeavour Lone Pint Yellow Rose Buffalo Bayou Rye IPA Karbach Weekend Warrior Pale Ale Cedar Creek Dankosaurus Obviously have him make sure they are all fresh-ish
Mama Tried from Brazos Valley Brewing is not exactly a Houston brew (close enough?), and I'm not sure how easy it will be to find in Seabrook (check HEB), but I thought it was quite good. I think it's a new-ish release, so it should be somewhat fresh if your brother can find it. The Texas IPA selection is definitely improving, but as previously mentioned, the really good stuff (e.g. Brash) does not see retail packaging.
I live in Seabrook and frequent the Specs on NASA Pkwy about once a week. They just started stocking Yellow Rose 4 packs about 2-3 weeks ago. No one that works in the store knows shit about beer, so if you're in that area just stop in and look around yourself. Also check out NASA Liquor a few miles down the road near Egret Bay, they sell craft singles and usually always have Yellow Rose there.
